More info?
Ive always been curious about these since it was on topgear, would love to know more about the car and how you find it!
These cars you can pick up for as little as £3500 which i personally think is a bargain for a very capable car with performance and road presence. They are basically Mercedes SLK platform built in Germany using nearly 80% Mercedes parts which include all running gear, brakes etc. The 3.2 merc engine is very capable and reliable unit especially when used with the 5 speed auto box (6 speed manual is also available).Ive always been curious about these since it was on topgear, would love to know more about the car and how you find it!
Interior plastics do feel a bit 'fagile' but it's a very nice place to sit with heated leather electric seats for the driver and passenger. Stereo system is 'Infinity' with hidden bass speaker behind the seats which is good quality. Performance is good with a 0-60 in just over 6 seconds and a top speed of 155mph, economy when driven sensibly can be into the 30s. Unusual fact about the wheels is that the front and rear wheels are of different size, the front are 18" whilst the rear are 19" with a wider tyre.
I haven't had mine long and i do tend to change my cars quite frequently so i've had loads of different types and brands and in my opinion the Crossfire is fantastic value for money, quiet and smooth, interesting looks and good performance, infact i love driving this car. I think generally they can be slated but unfairly, alot of people have lots of opinion about a car they know nothing about! I went into ownership with all things considered and i'm very happy with the car so far! As i've said i think these cars are the less known about bargains and look and feel alot more money.
Not to my taste but at 3.5k for that much shove can't complain. Can I ask why you didn't go for an RX8 over one of these OP?
Edit: Evo gave it 4 stars http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/3554... hmmn

RX8??? A car i have indeed considered in the past but heard and read about too many engine hot start and potential rebuild problems. You have to work the engine hard to extract the power and economy is rather 'poor' at best. The RX8 is another 'bargain' car if you can find a good one, i prefer torquey 'Vee' engines and the RX8 just doesn't appeal to me.Edit: Evo gave it 4 stars http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/3554... hmmn

I have a 54 plate Crossfire with 44,000 miles that cost the grand sum of £4300.
And I love it. I have the manual which can be notchy but is fine. There are some dodgy materials in the cabin but overall it is a nice play to be and has plenty of toys.
What I really love about it is the looks with such different styling and a rare sight on the road.
And the noise it makes when flooring it is addictive!
Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

I've driven one before and while it's not the best car i've ever driven, it certainly wasn't bad. I think at what they cost new (what? £25k+) a lot of people wouldn't consider it compared to most things, but you can hardly argue now with the price and shouldn't be dismissed IMO.
Nice car OP!

Great looking car!
There is one for sale down the road from me for £4K, they are great value at the moment. Need to watch the road tax on the newer ones as it jumps to the £400+ bracket.
I looked at them a few years ago as I love the styling, especially 18's on the front and 19's on the rear.
I was a little put off by the interior trim and it was only a 2 seater.
I bought an RX8 instead, a true 4 seater and the 231 rotary red lines at 9K, being used to bikes it was great fun.
The RX8 does have a better interior, is more of a drivers car as the crossfire is more of a cruiser, but your lucky to get 20mpg with the RX8 against 30mpg for the crossfire. Changed mine about 2 years ago and the reliability scares people off which is why they are cheap.
I'm really tempted to get a crossfire, I like the idea of the SRT6 so you get a supercharger (my mate has the SRT6 convertible) but would like a manual gearbox, and can only get them in auto.
If a low mileage dark red manual comes along for the right price I think I'll be tempted. Please keep us updated on how you find it.
