Well done, you stole it.

The only helpful thing I can add, more of an observation really, is that it was first registered in Cornwall

If you are looking for an easy and useful way to record your spends, I can recommend this website:

http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/

It lets you update from your phone etc, and gives useful consumption graphs and the like. I really like it....

Having looked at absolutely crap 728i's for three times the price of this, you have done very well indeed! Enjoy it!

Right, one problem was the key fobs. One unlocked the car, and the boot, but wouldn't lock. the other did nothing.

Followed these instructions with new batteries, and guess what, worked first time!

bingo!

Great looking car, wouldn't look out of place anywhere!

Give it a good valet, peel off the 'plates & ask people what it's worth?

What sort of MPG are you getting Olly ?
No idea, I dont have an obc.
Really? I'e had an early E38 with air-con rather than climate as per yours, but it still had the BC button on the end of the indicator stalk (735i rather than 728i though). Just about visible here:

Press it and the various OBC functions should scroll through the lower part of the pixel display in the instrument cluster.

ETA pics, cos I'm a tart and I know you love them:

My best overall bargain barge adventure yet, that one in terms of minimal bork and low costs to buy, sell and run. The E38's ride on 16s is sublime too, even if it does look a bit dowdy. thumbup

100% agree. My 740il on 16's was 'magic carpet like' in its ride.

Yup.

No s555a (iirc) on the spec list.

I have retro fitted a BC stalk, I have a BC MID, so just need to get it coded to get the OBC working.

After today, I have decided that I like the 7. More than the Porsche. So that's going.

Question is, do I tart this one up, or buy a better base to start from?

Yours looks good and is no doubt a bargain but I would say go for another one, probably a slightly later one with more spec/toys, nicer wheels, and perhaps a bigger engine?

Yep, good call. A late one in a nice colour combo with some choice options would be a gem.

Hmm. I like my wheels, exterior colour and engine.

Toys? I would like PDC, OBC and heated seats. Other than that, they are just nice to haves.

Engine? I really like the economy of the '28i.
