Jimmy No Hands said: I've driven a C1 and it felt like a small car, which, is what it is. But it also felt a bit biscuit tinny and a bit fragile. The Up! feels very much more refined in my opinion, from the inside it could easily be a new Polo. Road noise is kept to a minimum and the engine doesn't monotonously scream at motorway speeds. All this equals a fairly secure, sedate driving experience. It was a toss up between the new Kia, a Fiat 500 and this VW. I actually really liked the Kia, it had a lot of kit and looked fantastic, but ultimately after a good long nosey and a test drive she was really smitten with the VW, so thats what it was! I must have a go in the Up as Im a big fan of small cars!

Looks really smart, although I think they should've offered a 1.2l engine. I had an Aygo a couple of years ago and due to living in the hilly countryside the fuel consumption was s t, and let's face it, if you can't get good mileage out of one of these things then there's little point in owning it. Anyway, I've just ordered myself a new Polo and might be interested in one of these next year. Is the ride hard with those wheels?

Oh yeah I knew I missed something out! The trip comp is reading 61 mpg for our 400 mile round trip. The tank took £37 to fill up to full from a quarter! Don't know if it was being optimistic, but the full tank lasted.

Interesting, I would like to have a drive in one as I love the Lupo's (the wife sold her Lupo GTI last year).

Without being rude, do they cost a lot of money?

I'm actually not sure. I think something like 7995 for a base model, and I think the black & white editions were ~10.5k. Not cheap but she really didn't want poverty spec. But when you are using something daily it's understandable!

Are these Lupo sized or larger than that?

I have seen a couple about here, and I do think they are one of the coolest looking small cars out there, even though the 3 or so I have seen have all been white.

My parents ordered a middle spec one (Move Up?) at 9k with no extras - no movement in price from the dealer but gave a reasonable deal on the PX.

Like the sound of that mpg too - driving style for that? Were you taking it very easy to get that sort of number or was that without really trying?

Possibly a daft question but is the entire tailgate glass or is there some kind of seamless transition?

Were you taking it very easy to get that sort of number or was that without really trying? I wasn't driving with economy in mind at all. The majority of the roads are 60/70 NSL. I even managed several overtakes. It takes a bit of planning but entirely possible to pass lorries/tractors easily. I noticed minimal difference in consumption when I took over driving duties, and she definitely has a more 'relaxed' style. I have a feeling however it's driven it'll return some brilliant figures.

Cool little car that, I always fancied a Lupo GTI so will be keen to see how the GT turns out.

Not as ugly as I thought it would. Would be funny in an ironic way if you rolled it.

The production version of the UP is a bit of a dissapointment when you compare it to the rear engined Concept they showed. Still a thousand times better then the Fox though.

I really like the Up - I would happily have one.
The detachable media screen thingy - how is it attached to the dashboard? Also is there a compartment to store it in the car when you don't want to take it with you? I can imagine it being a bit of a target for uneducated thieves if you left it on the dash.

The concept does look good, not seen that before. The media device is attached via a slot on the top of the dash, when not in use there is a cover that hides the slot from view. She's just popped it into her bag and takes it with her. I suppose you could leave it in the car but if you get some car savvy thieves then they might chance it. I've just had a gander under the bonnet and the engine looks as if it can be lifted out by hand I still think 75 bhp from a 1.0 12 valve is pretty neat. I also noticed the car has a 5 star NCAP rating too. I will be egging her on to upgrade to a GT come next year..
