By all means put your own stamp on your car. But don't do it on a stbox corsa. I left my swift well alone apart from some different alloy wheels and fitted fog lights (not standard on the 1.3) and that suited me. It won't go anywhere near as fast as you are trying to make it look so don't bother.

Save the money, get a scooby and go nuts. Its the natural way.
Why do people keep panning this bloke's car?

It's not something I'd choose to buy, but evidently it's something he wanted, he works for, and he's proud of. Just because you'd rather save for a 'scooby' doesn't mean everything else is worthless.

By all means, criticise the changes he's made if you don't like them, but that doesn't make the car a **stbox**.

Don't be so pretentious for god's sake - you have a couple of uninspired choices and a share in your dad's Caterham, it's hardly Chris Evans' car collection that you're pootling round in either. Would you go round somebody's house and call it st? Would you turn up to a PH meet and actually tell him his car is a piece of st to his face?

If you would, you're socially inept, and I hope never to bump into you. And if not, which I hope is the case, why do you feel the need to type it? What value does it add?

'kin hell, it's like a classroom in here.

Oh dear socially inept coming from a journo. Ironic? yes. wink

Perhaps calling a corsa a stbox was a bit OTT but allow me to explain my reasons. Firstly the modifications don't make the corsa a stbox. I was using the word 'stbox' as a relative term i.e the fact its a 1 litre corsa makes it a stbox relative to the cars available.

Uninspired? The engine out of the celica can be found in some of the lotus cars you idolise. It's a great car and the only modification i would make to it is to permenantly remove the stability control because it kicks in too soon.

Also i'd personally take a TVR over a scooby but owning one does seem to be a big petrolhead milestone.

Uncle has had a chimaera since i was crawling and they make the most beautiful sound in the world. That is what you should be aiming for mate! Forget the mods on the corsa just put up with it until you can get yourself one of those.

Fair play OP, you must be a chilled out dude to have taken all this flak and still coming back to the thread (or stoned).
I think most of the hate was for the dildo who put red lights on the front of his car anyway.

IMO if you lose the front chav lights and sticker and put some OEM alloys on from a better model you really will have a clunge magnet!

Exactly, the only - and i mean only - reason you would do that is in an attempt to dig-up dirt on him. What a very sad thing to do...

Interestingly the advert on the right hand side of this page is from Vauxhall trying to sell me a Corsa for £199/month!

It's not a bad car, and he doesn't seem like a bad chap, car isn't my cup of tea admittedly, but if its getting him in to cars, albeit on a limited budget, no harm done, just keep it legal and enjoy.

The majority of journalists who are traditionally considered tossers (red-top writers, for instance), are usually anything but socially inept. They rely on charm, wit, charisma and good manners to disarm people and get their stories.

Turning up to interview George Clooney, for instance, and telling him his suit is a really st cut and he should have bought xxx from your tailor of choice, or pointing out to Wayne Rooney that he looks like a would find you with no interview and out of a job quick sharpish.

Often utter bds, yes, but socially inept? It's a job that revolves around working with people.

Incidentally, I work in a completely different industry, so rely on neither charm, wit, charisma or anything else much!!

I just don't think it's very nice to **needlessly** insult something that's evidently somebody's pride and joy. Look at how quickly you stood up for your own cars, for example, and that was nowhere near as harsh as calling them stboxes!

I personally thought Lotus made a huge mistake by going with the 2zz engines, they're like boat anchors. Adding 50kg on the engine alone on a car weighing 720kg is a huge waste. My 160bhp K car will keep up with a 190bhp Toyota all day long on the road (i.e, under 100mph); I'd have much preferred that Lotus went down the Duratec route, as did Caterham.

Each to their own though - that's the whole point. Some bugger always has something more exciting and better, so it's not worth looking down your nose at what other people drive. Especially if they're happy with their choice.

Some of these comments are quite pretentious and moronic.

I had a similar car when I was at Uni (a Polo) and it was great fun saving up for bits and bobs like wheels and styling parts etc.

I suggest that some people should give this guy a break and lighten up a bit rolleyes

Yes, thanks for editing what I said and deleting one of the points I was trying to make.

And in case you can't understand why, the reason I criticised his car was to get a reaction, to try and point out why he shouldn't call somebody else's car a "stbox". As you saw, he defended his choice pretty enthusiastically...

Oddly enough, they're obviously the cars that he wants to drive around in. Just like the other guy wants to drive round in a Corsa. Just like I want to drive round in a small plastic bathtub. Just like you drive around in whatever it is you own.

But now we're going round in circles.

I drive a MY2012 1.2 Corsa LE on a fairly regular basis, the car is far from a stbox, fairly nippy, a very willing little engine and tight handling.

I assume this is an attempt a wit? It's hardly a track car or ever likely to be, it is though a very good commuter car, which in reality is probably it's intended purpose. With a daily commute of 52 miles and petrol at nearly £1.40 a litre, 50mpg suites me fine.

Been a while since some kiddy wink started posting and got flamed.

Usually they're asking advice about buying a Lamborghini or an r8. Atleast his car is real I suppose.

I've seen those wheels on various sports cars and they're not my cup of tea, don't think i've ever seen a car they do look good on tbf.

Good thread though. Wonder what the next teenager that comes along will be buying - no doubt a self made millionaire to boot.

That's 18, with a 41 year old (CAR)

bought it because its amazing to drive, and annoys the eco people as it currently does around 16MPG...

cheap to insure, and modifications don't change the price...

cost me £2,600 plus on going modifications, its low ...I mean doorhandles on most cars, loud, and has a bad ride, if that's what your looking for in a car - it also goes around corners nicely and makes you grin biggrin

Yeah that's right im 18, with a '71 plate... beat that hehe

Say No to the eco-trollies!
Get it, you appeal to a bunch of old men on a car forum.

You must be so wealthy.

At least that's what the stupid bints will think when they see you.

Spending money you don't have, on things you don't need, to impress people you don't know and get the wrong women for all the wrong reasons.

Way to go!
100% agree, i know someone like that myself

It's quite obvious you know something about nothing. I can afford as I am in a decent job.

Annother point. I have never at any point said I love corsas! This was just an ideal car for me at the curent time especially when you consider the benefits of a new vauxhall (100k limited warenty for example#0

Also, whoever said about insurance fronting I am well aware of it. That's why I have allways and will allways pay for my own insurance and insure my car by my self!

I went for a 1.0 as it's VERY economical and can do 50-70MPG urban driving (Not great on motorways if i'm honest) Also I don't think £30 tax for a year is something to complain at. Also parts are a bit cheaper that many other cars I could have gone for

In sumary, Yes I could have gone for a bigger engine or a sporty car. I could have spent less money and so on however I have bought my corsa and although it's not an amazing car and it corners like a dinasour I don't much care

Hey guys thought i might as well put up a thread about my car, now keep in mind that im a student so modifications will be slow but they will surely come and ill post my car as it evolves with everything i do, oh and also guys im not the most technical person about cars so just keep that in mind if i say anything wrong or stupid smile

My car is only the 1 litre version so i decided that right now there isnt much point doing anything to the engine as its only a wee baby engine! and so basically every mod ive done is just for the looks.

One of the first things i did was put in a subwoofer of course! main reason why i got this was because i went to the slam tent at Titp enough said >biggrin

After getting a bit bored of the standard alloys that i had on my car i started looking up for aftermarket ones , after 2 hours of looking i had already decided which alloys i wanted!

Momo Corse alloys biggrin

Brand : Momo
Model : Corse
Width : 7.5J,
Diameter : 17 Inch
Bolt Pattern : 4x114.3
Offset : 35
Colour : Black , Polished
Style : Polished Lip , Twin 7 Spoke

and here they are on the car :

I had a huge problem trying to fit these beasts on as even though the website that i had bought them from said it would fit, they actually didnt!!!
the back of the alloy was scraping into the break calipers, i phoned up the company that i bought them off and they phoned momo about it and they were even surprised themselves so basically i was the guinea pig .... for my troubles though they sent out free spacers so i could fit them on , the first pair that came were too small and the back of the alloys still scrapped so they then sent off another pair of spacers this time thankfully they fitted without scraping!

My next idea for my car was then to change the front grille. there were the Irmscher types but they were a crazy price so i decided to go for the cheapy unknown black grille: This was a scary experience sawing away the original grille!

was pretty pleased with the results!

The next small project was tinting the windows after about 5 attempts i was only able to get the back two side windows done the very back window was basically impossible because of how much it curved (might of also been because i bought cheap tinters...):

The lights were next! after about £90 worth of blue fake bulbs i decided to buy new head lights because i wasnt happy with the way the lights looked so i bought myself some crazy set of headlights that basically had every style of light u could think of ! :

oh also added a wee cheeky sticker and yes i know its immature but its just for a laugh smile :

Right got the coil overs put on a couple of days ago got some pics up here but none that are good quality right now.

Tell me what u think guys also can give me some constructive criticism.
