Skim of filler....on a 2009 GTR like his???...come on..your winding me up aint ya? If you read back what I said, you'd see I was referring to the possibility of buying the car back from the insurers 'if' it is written off. He'd get the car at a vastly reduced price compared to what would be paid out 'if' it is written off. This could work out financially beneficial if it is played correctly, albeit requiring more effort than what Dan had intended. Sure, its a pisser, but rather than throw in the towel, I suspect Dan will come out of this in a reasonable position... he's clearly not one to shirk effort. I was merely offering some moral support

Can you claim on insurance for things like this??
Surely it's classed as an act of god, I feel sorry for you dude, worked your ass of and then this happens.
Good luck what ever the outcome.

I know it would cost a fortune and not very cost effective (potentially) but could you 'sucker' alot of them dents out?

Just look at any cars in Marbella, they all have peppered bodywork due to a freak hail storm a few years back. Sorry that this has happened to you also. Turn it to a positive and setup a mobile dent man business for the UK area affected!

Maybe your insurance will pay you out more than what you paid for it?
Well done on what you've achieved so far.

Considering the wheeler dealing and I assume a lot of insurance swaps, claiming on this would put quite an increase on future insurance, which is another thing to bare in mind.
But saying that, considering how the OP has gone through cars, I'm sure he'll ride the storm (excuse the pun) quite well through it all.

That is awful, sorry mate. Can't believe we had hailstones that size, that's the sort of thing that happens in Oz (and indeed happened to some poor bugger's S2000 on Readers Cars a while back) but not in the UK!

I was merely offering some moral support If the car is written off, surely he'll make a killing? If it is written off, it will be due to Nissan parts costs and labour charges, if he bought it back it could be restored to its former glory by an indie for a fraction of the price. Or as mentioned, carbon skin the s t out of it. Do insurance companies offer to sell the car back to you at 10% of the payout? So if they pay £40k, you buy it back for £4k or is that just for cheap cars?

I have seen many cases of this back home, even remember as a kid helping a neighbour try and cover his car with a large blanket while getting pelted with golf ball size hailstones...... Sorry to hear mate and hope you do come out of it well, sh*t thing to see happen to someone's pride and joy.

Wounder mate, I've got a few dents in my car but it's not too bad, no where near as bad as yours. StottyZr said: Do insurance companies offer to sell the car back to you at 10% of the payout? So if they pay £40k, you buy it back for £4k or is that just for cheap cars? Mine certainly didn't when my impreza got written off, they wanted about 80% of the payout. Seeing as it had been rear ended on the motorway I let them keep it.

look on the bright side, they might pay to fix it, and if they do, you could have a bit of fun throwing rocks at your massively expensive car.

what to do if this kind of thing happens again?
Presumably throw thick duvets/clothes all over the car as rapidly as possible?
