Only if I can leave them in your garage BC! hehe
I can find room for them - based on ending up owning the car in a few years time biggrin

Can I aslo ask you to get a stealth towbar fitted sometime in the next 2 years wink
Any particular make?!!! rofl
Ironwork can be any make at all - but I'd prefer for the electrics to be OE supplied as they should be plug and complex play and I don't like scotchlocks and crimps - thanks for asking hehe

I'm going to leave the wheels with my friendly tyre man to try and sell for me. I don't know how much success we'll have, but it's worth a go and they aren't worth more than a couple of hundred pounds, so I'm certainly not cluttering up my garage with them.
If he doesn't bear me in mind as a storage/sale solution biggrin

Well we are due to pass the 70,000 miles mark this weekend and today the wheels I bought secondhand from a friendly PHer named Jim (with a lovely F355 cloud9) in Leicester had their new tyres fitted. I know that wheels will always divide opinion, but I'm pleased and I guess that's what matters most. They were only £200 and I think they bring the car right up to date. I had Kumho tyres fitted as they are a brand I have used for many hundreds of thousands of miles with no issues.
Now would be a good time to have a little tot-up of what's been spent so far.....

10.04.12 Front and rear brake pads replaced, discs cleaned, slides lubricated etc £308.64
09.05.12 Very full service, plugs, air filter, timing belt, water pump, rollers, idler, tensioner, ribbed belt, etc., at VAG specialist £1214.70
11.05.12 Replacement wheels £200
19.05.12 4x new Kumho 255/40/19 Y tyres, valves and balance. £633.60
Running total £2356.94

Let's hope the spending slows down over the next couple of weeks! hehe

4.2TDi LWB. Had this one, my second, for about two years and put 125 k on it. It has a hard life, up and down to airports at least once a day besides other duties.

No rattles, still as good as when I got it. It has only needed two sensors replaced, arb bushes on the front and it needs a new handbrake electric motor on the offside which is being done this week. £880.00!! eek

Really nice place to be in for prolonged periods, extremely capable in all weathers and the ability to eat miles with ease.

The older A8's have always been on my 'dream barge' list and I still find myself looking at them from time to time. I saw a 4.2 Quattro model whilst I was driving home from work the other morning and it looked superb, still a dashing shape.

The only thing that puts me off is the potentially ruinous repair costs involved with them. BMW 7's and Mercedes S Classes of the same era seem to be screwed together to a higher standard, or at least made from higher quality parts that don't go wrong as often and don't cost as much to fix. The stories of Audi wanting £7,000 to replace the weak 4-speed gearbox being particularly frightening!

I don't think Audi would be top of my list of places to visit for a replacement gearbox for an ageing A8! wink

Those wheels were an excellent purchase. They suit the car far more than the originals. Stunning.

Nor mine, but even a reconditioned unit from a specialist is sure to be pricey, no?

The A8 will remain on my shopping list. There is a decent looking one for sale near me. I would go and have a look at it were I not in the middle of moving house.

I'm in comms with a garage in Hampshire about an S4, 2006. Is it worth the cost of circa 20 mpg for that engine?

Thanks, Stuart.

I would say yes, but if you're attracted to the S4 and its sporting pretentions, you really need a Milltek exhaust or similar to get the most from it. earssmile
