MG ZT 260 4.6 V8
Discussion
It's been quiet for a while on the ZT front, it just keeps churning out the miles in a nice throbby sort of a way (around 15k miles in the last year - at 19mpg lol)
Unfortunately one of the "known issues" reared it's head yesterday and the water pipe to the heater gave way in spectacular fashion:
Luckily not too far from home and gaffa tape along with copious amounts of water got it back later in the evening.
This hose is a weak spot to the extent that the owners club have had stronger silicone replacements made. I now have one on order so hopefully it'll only be off the road for a week!

I've wanted one of these since they were launched. I remember reading all about the 'XP500' that MGR were talking about, to take on and slaughter the M3/M5. Shame it never happened.
Still, I always like to have a peak in the classifieds, I still want one.
Lovely car OP.

It is a shame this is the only one in existence
Its NOT a shame that my work own it though ;-)
Oh and it may be for sale for the right price... ;-) (the right price is a lot btw...)

Now that's a beast!
Mine is back on the road now, replaced the burst pipe with a stronger silicone one from the two-sixties club.
Was a more fiddly job than hoped and a bit of cursing was involved, but all good in the end.

Is this the first Prodrive built XP500 that was originally grey (well it was black when first built!) then became pearlesent purple/green for a motorshow somewhere? Has it gone grey again? With the standard exhausts, this could well be a near ultimate sleeper car, would fancy one myself but for what they seem to be priced at pretty sure i'd go for the monaro/e39 M5 for v8 fun still not sure id want to drive a rover lol but practical (ish) motoring its a bloody good choice.

This was rescued from the factory when rover/mg went down again(!) It was only part finished
They had planned a series of cars the 260, a 385 and the 500 all to be production cars
This was the prototype for the 500 range
Its been a few different colours since being "rescued"!
We got hold of it (MGOC) and finished the build off, slight problem initially as there was no front bumper......!
The bumper was eventually found (its a special bumper that will only fit this car) on ebay! So got that snapped up
The main problem is that a lot of it is custom parts, so you cant really drive it as if something breaks you could be in for a hefty (very hefty!) bill
The clutch wouldn't work at first until we discovered that a the carpet was too thick so you couldn't depress the pedal fully! The clutch is also incredibly heavy
I'd love to take it for a spin sometime but alas i dont think that will happen any time soon and the mpg leaves a little to be desired (sub 10!)
Its on display at our HQ just outside Cambridge and sometimes pops along to events. On a trailor if they are far away due to the mpg! or driven if its local. It was over at Duxford airfield for the saloon car display and on display this weekend at our 40th birthday bash.
Turns a few heads, the whine of the supercharger makes it sound like a jet and the exhaust has a nice throaty note! ;-)
Oh and we have a prototype 385 tourer too, that one is in daily use too!

That looks a great car. I sold my ZT-T for quite a bit more than that with over 80,000 miles. Edited by JulesV on Sunday 18th August 22:35

What a waste, why not sell it to someone who actually wants to use it for something other than PR stunts for which nobody knows what it is anyway!?It was only part finished
