Defender 110 Restoration
Discussion
@p4t can I be cheeky and ask how much this restoration cost you and the time it took you? I am looking at doing the same to my recent purchase of a 94 300tdi 110 defender. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated eg... Contacts of supplies for kit and storage of the vehicle for the work. Message me privately if you would not like to post the actual price.
Any help on this matter would be perfect
Thanks will

I can't be of any assistance specific to a Defender, but any cars I've done up (a handful now) I've learned to double the cost estimate and at least double the time estimate.Any help on this matter would be perfect

Hi Will
I am happy to answer your questions.
The cost of the base vehicle was £2000 despite being in such a bad state... Defenders hey! The sum of parts was about £9,000 in the end including things like painting meaning a total cost of about £11,000.
This biggest killer in my opinion of taking on a project like this is the sheer amount of time that needs to be invested. I work 50 hours a week for my day job and was putting about another 20 hours a week into the land rover. I don't think its the sort of thing you would be able to do if you had a wife and kids that also needed some of your time as I felt as though every spare minute was spent on the LR.
A lot of the parts were sourced on the internet and delivered to my work for ease. There are PDF parts manuals available online and they proved invaluable for part numbers which can then be typed into a website like lrseries.com and you then have the option of choosing a genuine or spurious part depending on the budget.
I rent an old chicken shed on a farm which is where I did the work but for convenience it would always be better at home in a garage simply for being at home would enable you to spend more time on it.
Current project is a house which seems to swallow money like you wouldn't believe!.. When thats done I need to make a start on the series 3 land rover ive had sat in the shed for a few years.
