Just spotted this car up for sale for £8750! Extremely strong money for an 8v, but still looks smart. I'm guessing it's passed through a few hands since the OP bought it for £300!

As an owner of several of these down the years, they were really good.

I have an M135i now which is better in every way, but why do I hanker after one of these ?

They are brilliant, despite sub super mini power nowadays they are so good, a nice one is worth the money.

Old cars are more fun to drive I think. All the input has to come from the driver, not from the onboard computers. Makes a difference, makes just getting somewhere a bit of an achievement. smile

I find modern (post about 2005) too anemic and too intrusive to properly enjoy driving. I hate the bings and bongs as you get in, the soft limiters, the "handbrake" buttons, DSG gearboxes, touchscreens, bluetooths, customised this that and the other, driver "aids" etc. Give me a characterful engine, handling that engages and above all... simplicity... and I'll forgive a lack of horsepower.

We have a Mk2 Golf 16v and a Mk1 Mx5 amongst other cars... both are much more fun to drive than anything modern despite being left for dead by an average TDI down the bypass.

Cheers,

Drew.
