Awesome smile

I like that, I'd never seen one before you posted this though.

Looks really clean in the photos.

Fantastic car, from when Peugeot made decent cars.
I had a very early 309 SR (carb model) it just went on forever.

I lusted after one of these too when I was in my late teens/early twenties! I almost bought one back in 1998 but even then the guy was asking silly money.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with this, it will be a great project!

I had a 309GE then a 'Style', happy days!

There's a bit of rust on the inner an outer sills - I need to investigate thoroughly but it doesn't look too bad. Also a little bit round the rear lights.

The standard grille was one of the spares included in the sale, so that will be going on as soon as the rain stops (maybe 2013 then!).

Actually, thinking about it I had a 1.6 SR too, but it was never roadworthy and was used as a spares car for for my GL, SRi and later 205s of both mine and my friends! Learnt a lot from stripping that one down!

Loving 'MRV' a lot. I don't think mine will ever look that good though smile

Want this too! Like the direction readers cars is going with the old hot hatches I used to read about and want when I was 14 or so. Always wanted a black 3 door GTI one of these until I discovered the Goodwood but couldn't find any straight ones for sale last time I looked frown Looks lovely, enjoy the Frenchy experience.

I had a 205 gti with starting issues. In the end it turned out to be a leaky injector - might be worth checking. Starter motors can be problematic too with my 205 got starter removal down to a fine art - we could have the front apart and the starter out in 10 mins!

Bit of elbow grease and you'll be halfway there, ay least.

First job done:

Much better!

A proper nose round the engine bay revealed quite a few odd jobs need doing where corners have been cut in the past, which to be fair the previous owner warned me about. Should keep me occupied!

I was also checking the exhaust to work out where it was blowing and realised it doesn't have a cat. I thought 309s at this age should have one - has it been binned or am I wrong? Either way, ideally I need a full exhaust to replace the blowing downpipe/centre box and get rid of the nasty Peco back box.

Definitely needs a good wash and polish, but so happy I finally got one of these in my life:

I'm curious as to what's in the bag.

It's awesome, I don't think I've seen a 309 in ages, fantastic thing. biggrin

The bag in the passenger footwell? It's a replacement carpet as the original has a rip under the pedals. Nothing exciting I'm afraid wink

The first thing to check for the starting is the brown multiplug near the battery - this gets corroded and increases to resistance to the starter motor causing the classic 'click but no start' problem.
This. Me and my friend both had the infamous 205/309 starting issues on our cars, both turned out to be above problem.

Fantastic thread OP!

also very common for poor earthing and bad connections all over. this can also cause the "click" as well as knackered starter.

I've always wanted a 3dr 309gti. A goodwood is even better. Looks like a great buy, I'm off to check the classifieds/eBay/gumtree/autotrader.

It also stalls a lot when it's cold so i think i'll just be pulling apart everything, cleaning connections, securing loose bits and testing components. Luckily I've got some old Jetronic manuals from when my Dad worked for Peugeot so they should prove useful!

this is another very common one. there is a device called a Secondary Air Device or SAD. This can fail and cause all kinds of running faults.

these engines also need to be set up correctly. there are adjustments on the airflow meter and throtle body.
its quite difficult to get spot on if you dont have the equipment or experence.

im not sure where your based but i no of a very good peugeot specialist in the midlands i dont want advertise on hear so let me no if you would like the details they will also have all the goodwood bits your missing i would think.
