How do the MK1 RS compare with the Mk2 STs? They are around the same price now and a mate of mine is looking at both but prefers the sound of the 5 pot, the major difference I think is the weight and LSD.

I have told him to consider a R26 Megane or aazda 3 MPS as well as both have LSD as standard.
An asda 3 mps?

Good to see these can take a few miles happily, they're one of the few interesting cars which look like reasonable value out here so I'm debating one as a second car for the weekly trips to the airport and weekend trips away.

The readers rides article prompted me to a quick update on here, cars not been used since Feb & has been at my workshop.
Last time i looked over it i noticed the rear bush on one of the lower wishbones had split so when a set of already poly bushed arms came up (have only covered 1k miles) from a car being broken up i snapped them up smile

Then i got carried away laugh

Subframe out

Lower arms & anti roll bar after a coat of sealer

Front subframe with the sealer still wet it's marine grade stuff & goes on this funky colour but drys satin black

It wont win any concurs but its nice to know its all nice & clean under there & ready for the next 100k biggrin

Next job will be to rebush the rear but i need to wait till i can spare a day on it which with the way work is may be some time!!

Great work smile

What does the alignment tool look like for the front subframe and how hard is it to re-align?

Will be dropping mine this winter

The actual tool is just 2 pins but you can always align them by eye then do the geometry smile

An updates over due so here we go

Cars now all legal again & Ive been enjoying using it but it has been spending quite a few hours on the ramp having 'improvements' done laugh

Rear subframe powder coated & all new bushes along with hardrace adjustable camber & toe arms

Had the trailing arms done too & now fitted with hardrace bushes

Fitted in place I also put a deutchworks updated fuel pump in while I was there

Also got the front subframe powder coated although it's not a great picture replacing all the bolts in front & rear subframe a came to over £300!!
Also got a spec r front mount intercooler kit which while not cheap fits perfectly (unlike cheaper kits) it also uses a genuine garret core so flows really well

Having also fitted a Devils own water/meth kit I thought I better get the car on a rolling rd to check fuelling

Made 320bhp & 350lb so reasonable figures if a little low for what I was hoping but fuelings good & my boost gauge is over reading by .2 bar so with the boost adjusted it should be up @ 340bhp with a bit more torque smile

It's great to see the car being enjoyed - far too many great cars never see the roads they were so extensively engineered for.

Given the notable rise in value and your new facilities, do you feel at all concerned about the car depreciating as a result of the modifications you've added?

I've installed some of the Hard Race parts on my own Honda S2000, however as I felt the paint finish could be improved upon I had them stripped and re-coated.

All in all though, nice looking car.

So latest update I've got a bit carried away!

I decided after driving a customers car that I wanted a bit more power so I bought a bigger turbo (t36 from turbo technics)
Then after I had already purchased it I thought about it & realised to take advantage of the new
Turbo the engine would need to be forged so I started looking into rebuilding the engine when While
speaking to a friend an old name popped up.
To those of you who don't know Ian Howell the owner of area 6 is very well known in the zetec building world & has
built some of the most powerful & reliable zetec engines that I have seen including 180mph + fiestas as
Well as various race cars.
Ian gave up a few years ago to spend more time with his family but does build the odd engine on request
Which he agreed to do for me
My engine is one of his milder spec engines built for the road with a low lag setup
Forged internals
Area 6 spec camshafts & valve springs
Gas glowed & ported head

The aim for the setup is mid 400's bhp but good torque probably @ 500lb which should make for a fast & reliable road car

Just getting some miles in the car now ready for mapping at devil developments on the 29th smile

Your not the only one! laugh
It's a bit of an unknown as the t36 turbo in focus fitment hasn't been around for very long
So no one has really pushed one to see what it's capeable of
My customers car made just shy of 400bhp & 470lb at 1.6 bar boost but
That car doesn't have the hard work cams intercooler water meth etc that I do plus my engines built to take 2 bar boost so should surpass his by a fair bit
