REALLY boring, but I shouldn't have sold my S-plate 200k mile TDi Passat - it was totally reliable for 100k miles, I paid next to nothing for it. Nothing that followed gave the reliability or frugality. Even the passat estate that followed immediately after.
Less boringly, I bought a 1986 Audi Coupe with a new 16v golf gti engine, for £250 from an auction. It sat at home for a year without turning a wheel, I sold it for £150. Why bother?! Plus the one time I drove it, it was a hoot.
