Hello all

I have just recently bought my first Porsche. I have been looking at them for a few years now and have finally got round to picking one up.

She's a 1988 2.5 lux in Black, half leather interior. 17" wheels. Boot spoiler etc.

I have been tempted by the idea of a classic for years but never been brave enough or the money/space to run a second car, so these seem the perfect compromise. It appears to have all the modern conveniences I need. Electric windows and mirrors. Power steering etc. It's relatively simple too, no plastic cover over the engine, just straight down to business. My previous car was an E90 BMW on lease hire, it didn't even have a dip stick (just a computer). It'll be a good test for the 80's car to see how long I keep it, using it every day and for longer trips.

Overall enjoying it, makes me smile. I always look back when walking away, which is what it's all about....

I like that car. A lot. Simple, understated, clean lines, a 2.5 litre engine & a Porsche badge on the bonnet. What's not too like?

A very very nice car.

Great choice. I ran an '86 Lux as my daily on and off for 5 years and 70,000 miles (from 135k to 205k) and it coped brilliantly - made every journey an event. It'll be fine. smile

Snap - just picked up a 1988 944 myself. Enjoy!

Any little niggles? Mine has a stiff to open rear hatch, a small tear in the passenger seat and a few dinks & dents, but it corners really well and the steering feel is good.

DaveShark that looks great. Good to see other people picking up 944's.

Mine has some things that I am currently getting sorted.

Reconditioned power steering pump is on it's way. I have no working PAS at the moment.

I had a bit of a struggle with the sensor on the sunroof but some advice from people on this forum helped me sort that.

I have bought a modern Blaupunkt stereo which I will hopefully get fitted this weekend. There is a rough looking 90's sony unit in at the moment.

The bodywork is good but its not 100%, not any rust that I can see but the usual marks here and there. Id like to get it sorted mechanically and cosmetically over the next few months. I quite like having a little project, buying the odd part for it etc.

I really like original cars but the driver inside me is tempted by some tasteful mod's such as a cone induction kit. Just for the raspy noise.

I can see me keeping this one for a good while. I was looking at a few different options, mainly 2 seater roadsters then kept looking back to 80's Porsches.

I love Z4's and S2000's etc but still glad I am trying out the classic Porsche option.

Lovely, lovely car; I'm deeply envious. I've always wanted one of these, but I've never been brave enough to take the plunge (yet!). Always looking at them on the bay, for £2000 it's so tempting. Keep us posted on what it's like to live with. Well done!

Did you take a taxi to the kerb?

Hello all

Time for a quick update, indeed that taxi to the curb did take a while... My girlfriend is scared to scrape the alloys as I have put the fear in here.

It has started every day, which is always a bonus. The lights pop, and shine. She generally hums along quite well.

I find it more than comfortable for every day use, by wednesday she'll have a new bluetooth Blaupunkt head unit fitted too. What more could I need day to day?

I'm not sure on the alloys, they look like later bolster/911 variants to me. I am sure someone here will tell me.

The discs are uprated drilled versions and the callipers look to be from the 944 turbo but I am unsure on that.

I can see her out the window now, still putting a smile on my face.

I've just bought the Haynes manual for this car, it seems to be the North American variant. Published 1988 and 1990, so the pictures are not of the best clarity. Couldn't seem to find a European version.
