So after the Audi unexpectedly expired 3 weeks ago I needed to find another car. Got back down to Loughborough where I'm at university and started searching. Found this S60 for sale in London, and with a spare week before terms started, I got on the train and went for a look. Drove it back the same day biggrin

Needs a wash, but apart from that, she's lovely. She's a 2.4T with 89,0000 miles on the clock, 2 previous owners who seem to have looked after it well. Spotless inside, seats are holding up well, no real signs of wear at all.

Got the 803 stereo, which sounds amazing, love the fact I have Dolby Pro-logic in my car hehe On top of that, there's cruise control and a sunroof which I've not had before, and can't stop playing with biggrin

Parked outside our student house for this year, along with PHer McSam's 328i. We're not typical studnets when it comes to our cars hehe

Excellent cars these, the gaff looks nice too, for a student dig. You do know though, as your cars are not typical student cars and you live with another man, the locals will assume you are gay? wink

Probably worth pointing out we're not the only ones living there, this house would be a little OTT for two people!

Thanks for the comments (on the car hehe) I'll get some more photos once I've given it a wash and polish.

Nice, I had a 2.0T a few years back, was a great long distance cruiser with all the toys.

I can't believe how short that driveway is. What are you meant to be able to park on it so it won't overhang the pavement?

A supermini.

Nice car there. The S60 always was a smart looking thing. I never quite understood why Volvo persisted with the 2.4. It was neither frugal like the 2.0T, attractive to company car lists like the D5 and the T5 was there for the police! Still, you can at least guarantee that an S60 will be both comfortable and well equipped, enjoy!

Not bad student digs either tbh?!

I still don't get the urge to own a Volvo just yet, but can appreciate how good they are in terms of comfort, spec and performance (engine dependant!) after Dad owned an 850 AWD a few years ago.

Ahh, the memories... wink

It looks like you're having the same initial thoughts as myself (has this interior really done 89k?, what a gadge-fest, this stereo ain't half bad).

Actually, while I'm on the subject of the stereo, something I should mention. If you've got the DPL on and the fader to the rear it will sound bad. Your speakers aren't broken but this is just how the DPL works (it's tuned for the front seat passengers). When you turn the DPL off they'll sound normal again, so if you've got passengers in the back, this is worth doing.

Other than than, continue to enjoy the middle aged dream, and let me gloat about the fact your's lacks the turn of the millennium must-have feature - headlight wipers (actually they're more trouble that they're worth as you can't go through car washes but still...).

Excellent to see more students driving good cars, very nice choices too. I've got a E46 330i myself, still got an urge for a T5 of some sort myself. But you jammy gits being students and living in a proper house, with not only street parking, but a driveway and a garage! That is just plain rude! My beloved car has to park in whatever street nearby I can find a space, and being wider than most of the spacers has to be parked up on the kerb too. Then I see you both work for an Aston Martin racing team, finding it very hard to not hate you both right now. hehe

Ah, Loughborough memories. Hollywell Drive? Digs are a lot better then anything around Paget Street. Good choice of car by the way.

Thank you, thank you very much bowtie

These cars replacing an Audi apiece, as well.. We're doing it properly and upholding PH honour! Mine will get a thread of its own soon too smile

This is Barden Close, by the way, a fairly new spot - and neighbours have, among boring crap, a rather nice RX-8, a B6 S4 Cabrio, and a black RRS.

Yes we need more E46 under 21 threads!

That's not a proper student house, my road is full of the usual 106, Fiesta, Polo, Yaris, Corsa ste. Though someone does have a nice Z4.

Looks clean from the outside and in same colour as mine but I have beige leather.

Just out of interest how many clicks of the handbrake are you pulling up on to get it to bite?

Looks to me as the level is coming up abit high. This can be one of two things, it needs adjusting or that the rear handbrake shoes are on the way out - if they go they can take the hub with them and cost a fortune!

Had to have my shoes replaced after experiencing this happen and the shoe lining had come away from the backing plate so I was lucky to catch it.

Other than that looks cracking.

That does not look like a student house.. It looks like you live out in a leafy suburb, not in a booming university city!

That is a very nice looking car you have there, very different from the Audi I can imagine.

How are you finding the seats? They are meant to be the best in the business, they certainly look very comfy! Any plans for it? Remapping etc?

There are quite a few of us with E46s on here, 5 that I can think of off the top of my head smile

And that is quite a house you have there, I am in a flat FFS! We do have off street residential parking though, and we have a Crossfire and a DC2 occupying it amongst the boting stuff. They don't belong to students though hehe

I know about the issue regarding the hubs, and I'm also aware that there's a lot of travel in the handbrake, how many clicks I'm not sure, as I tend to hold the button in when applying it. I'll be servicing the car in the very near future so will have a look at the shoes and see what they're like.

Sounds like you've done your research then.

Heated volvo seats are the thing of gods.

The economy difference between the 2.4 and the 2.0 was negligible but offered more power. The U.K isnt the only market in the world so were the diesels arent offered or arent popular it makes sense to have a few petrols, economies of scale and all that.

Doesn't look like Adam's got them, although godly they are.
