Not a great car for long journeys if you are trying to hold a conversation with a passenger. Road noise is fairly loud. Also means you can't listen to the news on the radio at a low volume when you are going 80mph.

But boatloads of fun to drive, so there's that.

Minor update: Swapped Winter tyres for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 215/45R17 - great turn-in and more grip than the factory specified **** Michelins and hopefully better wearing. Can't be any worse.
i'm collecting my 86 on Tuesday ;-)
i want her to be a spirited road and track car. Getting 'better' tyres is fine, but i want them to be progressive too, this is after all a playful car.
Any comments on that front?
i only had a brief test drive in the damp and didn't really get to know the car before signing. It felt tight, great gearchange but also a little underpowered. The back felt a little nervous when i pushed a little, but it wasn't the time or place and it wasn't my car to play with! I'm looking forward to getting to know this modern classic...

The Goodyears are pretty good. More grip than the Michelins, but still a little give at the limit.
Haven't played with pressure yet, still at standard but all good.

They seem to get good reviews - in fact, my tyre guy was saying he's had lots of positive feedback on them.

Still no power upgrade I see LG frown

Added Cosworth high-flow performance air filter and shark-fin antenna.

Waiting for call from Litchfield's re LPP and LHK - hoping to book it in soon.

Still no solid plan for FI. paperbag

I'm still on the OEM Michelins and I find them progressive and grippy in the dry, but snappy in the wet. Given the tread pattern, I expected them to be better when it rains.

Just to say, slightly O/T but I have now driven one (well, actually two, both BRZs mind) and I must say I was very impressed, comfy, engaging, not quite so feelsome steeering compared to an MX-5 but not at all slow, despite having around half the power of my current toy. I found the auto far too willing to kick down with a slight nudge of the throttle in sport mode, in normal settings the throttle pedal felt dead and unresponsive compared to the manual. The auto is best in full manual mode, so might as well have the manual. The car is now firmly on the want list, but I am looking into an extended drive to confirm I can live with one on long motorway treks. Thanks OP and others for effectively encouraging me to go out and try one, consider me won over. If they made a convertible I suspect I'd have signed the paperwork there and then.

Inspired by DaveJH's black beast, I've been thinking... and I have a plan.
Not as adventurous or awe-inspiring as Dave's, but enough for me to justify keeping the car a while longer.

I've had the car getting on for two years now and have thoroughly enjoyed pretty much every moment of it, despite it being as it left the factory. It's unusual for me to keep a car for much more than a year or 18 months and I was getting restless. Then it dawned on me... why not make my old car into my new car?! I'm not in a position to go full-on FI just yet, but maybe that's a good thing. I'm now thinking I can have a 'new car' every 6-12 months for a while yet by doing things in affordable stages.

Later this month I'll be popping up to Fensport to have the first stage of fettling done. Tony is knowledgable and helpful and I'm looking forward to doing business with them - DaveJH has spoken highly of them too.
In order to firm things up a bit I'm having F&R Eibach ARBs and Tein springs with necessary bolt and bush kits, Avo cat back exhaust system and EcuTek mapping. This is expected to release +20BHP which may even bring it up to 'brochure-power'. rolleyes

This is in preparation for the stage I Avo Turbo early next year. FWIW, despite the headline price of 'just' £3,958 for the kit, it also requires dump valve kit, boost gauge & pod/mount all plus labour for fitting the darn thing. It benefits from the larger 3" exhaust system and of course there's the mapping. So now we're looking at c. £6,500. This'll give 260-280BHP which should keep me happy for a year or so, when I may look at the next step up to what Dave has which is north of 320BHP with more to come.

Still have original factory rims fitted but with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 215/45R17 fitted, way better than the Michelins. I'd like to change them, but not at the top of my list of priorities right now.

All in all, I'm getting quite excited about my 'new' car. It's nice to have a plan. cool

Heh. I went to the Griff Growl a couple of weeks ago. A woman there said she was considering getting a GT86 so she took it for a spin. She quite liked it, I think. wink

Did you find yours got faster as it had done a few thousand miles? I know an owner that has said
their GT has loosened up a lot with 5 figure mileage

I'm afraid, not that I've noticed. About 25,000 miles so far and feels pretty much the same as after the first 1,000 miles - which is no bad thing.

6.5k miles in my BRZ. It feels like it has loosened up a bit, but I think that is more to do with gaining familiarity with the engine and using the gears to suit (i.e. cane the tits off it).

I found after about 5k on the clock it really loosened up. Tight as hell when new.

Great car and I have no plans to change
