From what I've read, I don't think the Cosworth suits my requirements quite so well.

It produces more power and torque certainly, but more aggressive than the Harrop Eaton. I guess it's the 'better' solution if you want big numbers and track performance, but for my B road and lane driving I think the Harrop wins the day.

Like the Cosworth, it looks like pretty OE installation too:

Harrop graph

Abbey Motorsport graph

Hub Torque Power
Stock 143 lb-ft 167 BHP
TVS1320 206 lb-ft 252 BHP
Difference +44% +50%

Add c. 40 BHP for flywheel figure.

Got four of the feckers stacked up in the garage.
Won't be fitting until the last gritter's parked up though.

Meanwhile... who'd've thunk tyre deliberation could be so difficult. grumpy

First world problems, eh...

The plan is to keep the OE wheels for winter wear, but get them painted so the machined/polished surfaces don't jar so much.

c. -2kgs /corner and a little wider. I guess replacing the winters with nice new tyres has helped too, but it feels much more agile and nimble. Smooths out the lumps, bumps and crevasses too. biggrin

Changed the wheels on my Focus ST to OZs - saved 3KG per corner over the OEM Ronals, and it really made a huge difference to the feel of the car.
Have to say, I agree. yes
It's the first time I've 'upgraded' my wheels and amazed at the difference. I'm working down in Wimborne at the moment which is two hours each way on A and B roads, no dual carriageway let alone motorway. Some great roads which were great fun this morning and on the way back. There's a stretch just after Shaftesbury up zig-zag hill and over the top which is awesome as the sun rises. cool

Went up to Warrington on Sunday for Tuning Developments open day. I'd wanted to see and try their turbo-charged GT86, but they were so busy I didn't get the chance to go out in it. It looks like a neat installation though. Having driven DaveJH's turbo I think I have an idea of how it'd perform anyway.

Yesterday I went to Abbey Motorsport at Oxted. Mark took me out in their Harrop/Eaton supercharged car, which is largely standard including OEM exhaust, though it has HKS dampers and big wheels. It's impressive. Unlike the turbo, there's a gradual build from low down - it feels more like a large capacity V8 to me. It was reminiscent of my TVR Griffith in its delivery. Not mind blowing but purposeful. I like it.

If I'm to go FI then it'll be the Harrop supercharger, but I'm still concerned that I'd miss revving the nuts off the NA engine.
I'm worried about making an expensive mistake, which I'll regret. I really like it the way it is, but the temptation to add some lazy grunt may persuade me to make the jump.

First world problems, eh?

Yep. A 20 minute test drive isn't enough really. It feels great when you press on, though I didn't try it much even then, but on another forum someone who's gone for it has raised a doubt or two.

My honest opinion is that the car N/A has more than enough power for driving twisty B roads. I just find I have to back off way earlier now with the SC, which in many ways makes it less enjoyable.

I've not noticed any change in mpg, but then I don't monitor it closely anyway.

Had alignment reset while at Abbey though - the new wheels, tyres and geo has made a massive difference - also lubricated the ARB bushes which has stopped the perishing squeaks! Much nicer to drive now. cool

At last - peace has returned. cloud9

Switched back to OE anti-roll bars. Bliss.

Like banging your head against a wall. It's nice when it stops.

Up to Tuning Developments next month for UEL headers and Bilstein coilovers.

Hopefully not another set of mods I'll regret later. hehe

A couple of days up t'North at Tuning Developments has resulted in this:

A very happy customer. Not so sure Mike is quite so happy though... hehe Apparently my car decided to have a hissy fit, or three. They were working on it all day yesterday until after 9pm and again this morning until I collected it this afternoon. Some issue with the ECU becoming write protected or locked I think, but whatever - all good now.

Power and torque are up. When I'm next in the office I'll scan the graph, but the important thing is obvious as soon as you pull away, without the need for numbers and curves. The torque dip is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker!

Something I may need to look at though, is the exhaust volume. First of all you think it sounds great, especially if you're a childish twerp like me. It's got a proper Subaru burble that turns into a (almost) NASCAR bark on full chat. I know you won't believe it, but it seriously sounds way more NASCAR than most proper V8s I've heard.
However, it's pretty anti-social and I occasionally start early leaving home at 0600. I'll pop over to Infinity and have a chat - maybe its something they can sort out.

The Bilstein coilovers are great so far, though it's only been a 3.1/2 hour stop start motorway journey home and a very quick blast through the lanes when I got local. Handling feels much more grown up and well behaved and inspires confidence, as well as soothing the ride quality.

Yep. irked
Those darn TOMS. grumpy Spent ages getting them repinned for UK/EU/JDM wiring and then within a couple of days they broke. Right indiwinker stuck solid ON. Probably just the flasher relay but I'd had enough by then so back to OEM.
