1987 Peugeot 309 GTi (that I've not actually seen yet)...
Discussion
I remember the quite distinctive vacuum system on the sunroof.. close, latch and then the shhhhlurp-clonk as it sealed
I only had a GLX but it gained a GTI front bumper after a prang. The lamps were rusted to hell back then (2000) so not surprised they aren't working now.
I expect you've dealt with it by now, but from memory you could get (limited) access to the door lock rod by taking the handle trim surround off on the inside. Had the same issue with mine once that was resolved by a bit of poking around and some oil.

Properly jealous!
My first car was a nigh on identical E plate 309 GTi in red and I adored it. It went everywhere flat out and sideways, it handled brilliantly and only let me down after youthful enthusiasm, the handbrake and 6000rpm saw the planet gears exit via the bell housing. New box lead to a bd 2.0 XM head / 1900 bottom end which didn't work and I fell out of love and it was left to rust.
There are some local chaps who can get the passenger door open, seems they prefer going through the door skin just adjacent to the lock though in lieu of payment, they take a selection of CD's, an old jacket and half a packet of chewing gum.

Cheers for the kind words, I washed the car the other week and it really improved it! The bright sunshine helped too as it masks all the scars on the bodywork...
Anyway, the car has now gone. I drove it down to the restorers yesterday and it should be finished around March or April time (in time for Spring!). The car is going to be stripped, undergo a full respray, suspension and brake rebuild and have the engine and gearbox inspected and any work carried out as required. I am really excited to be honest!
Greg (the chap I have been dealing with) has promised me regular updates and pictures so I will update as they come through to me.
Some pictures of the washed car.
The damaged wing stands out lovely.
It doesn't actually look that bad in this picture!
A very eighties drive!

Could I ask the sort of money it will cost to have it restored or freshened up?
Carl
Hi Carl. Honestly, I'm not sure! I've had a good look underneath and poked around with a screwdriver to make sure there is not serious rot, but until it's taken to bits we won't be 100% certain it isn't hiding anything nasty.Carl
Realistically, it'll be a couple of grand (I hope it isn't much more as the OH will go spare!), hopefully no more than three once the engine and suspension have been sorted.
I'll let you know when I get the bill!

If you get the numberplates remade (looks like they could do with it) do make sure to get the old font
Very jealous. I think I'd want a phase 2 for the rather less horrid interior. My phase 1 SRi was delightful beige velour and beige plastic
I've already been looking for some old style plates!Very jealous. I think I'd want a phase 2 for the rather less horrid interior. My phase 1 SRi was delightful beige velour and beige plastic
I have to agree, the later cars had a less 'plastic' dash, but there seems to be so few of the early cars around (and this one is a fairly early car) that I just had to save it!

The Pug's lovely and all but that Merc is something else!!! Any more pictures of it?
Cheers Winnit, I love the Merc! It is actually my daily driver and is currently filthy. I need to get it washed and polished again this weekend. There are a few pictures and some info on it on this thread:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Was that Merc parked at ARI a few times in the Summer/Autumn?
I spotted a mint one that looked exactly like that. Really noticably special
