Really nice one in eBay just now for 6500, had a rebuild too!
I'm an old fart (34) and live in the sticks but my insurance with all mods declared and like-for-like cover is 500/year!
Is it a standard one apart from the rebuild? (The one for sale)I'm an old fart (34) and live in the sticks but my insurance with all mods declared and like-for-like cover is 500/year!
500 with all those mods declared is not bad. When I was 21 insurance was 3 grand. Had one quote for 15!
Nice pic btw. Still in my top 5 cars.. I don't know why I just love P1's.

Jesus, I can barely comprehend how quickly my car gathers speed, yours must be insane!
What turbo is that? A GT35?
Cheers
It doesn't seem to gather speed at all - it just does a Millenium Falcon type hyperspace leap What turbo is that? A GT35?
Cheers
It's funny but going from 495bhp to where it is now made the car feel like it had a load of weight taken off it rather than extra power and torque added. There's no real feeling of inertia now, it just sods off instantly if you're anywhere in the power band.
Not surprising, I suppose, really when you consider it has the same power to weight ratio as a Zonda or supercharged Ariel Atom.
Turbo is a rotated GT35r mk 3 billet.

As promised, Lefty let me have a drive in the P1 today. Some car!
My experience of fast cars isn't all that extensive as I normally take to two wheels for leisure, but it was brilliant fun even on a very brief test run. It has loads of feedback and you always know what it's doing. Turn in and control is superb and it gathers pace out of nowhere with tiny throttle inputs. Give it a proper boot it and it really, really flies, even compared to what I'm used to on bikes.
Cracking car! A proper real roads weapon!

Really interesting, thanks. What tyres are you using? I can see the appeal of wide arches and 265x35's...
On the road: Toyo R 888s at the moment, but will go Yokohamas next. I also have some Goodyears on a set of 18 s, but as I only do 2-3 k miles a year, the 888s have lasted quite well - I even took it out (slowly) on them in the snow once Lefty said:

Every time I open readers cars I see this thread and think 'oo someones bought a Mclaren'
Sorry to disappoint Yours is actually my favourite model/variant of impreza, one day I hope to get one myself!
Brilliant I love it! Loved them since they were released. I was to years old and we had had a run of wrx's. My mum borrowed one to test drive over the weekend from our local dealer but unfortunately a couple of months on settled on a prodrive spec'd bug eye wrx (imagine my disappointment!) as it was a bit too much for her.
It had such presence sat there on the drive next to our then v2 wrx. It looked huge and mean. Of course since that day I have bee so interested in them. I have always wanted one and I'm coming into the position to own one when I return to the U.K
That brings me to the dilemma, Never meet your heros (again)? I know it would be a sort of continuous project of updating/refreshing parts to keep it in good shape. It would probably be a semi daily as well. I don't know if I can live with one if it always needs tinkering and would hate to own one and fall out of love with them. Tell me i'm wrong that it will be easy and carefree?
Anyway absolutely lovely car! I think keep the exterior as original as possible as they are arguably the best looking classic bar the 22b

Thanks a lot. Yes they look very different to the the saloons/wagons! Much more presence IMHO.It had such presence sat there on the drive next to our then v2 wrx. It looked huge and mean. Never meet your heroes? Well, I would say that the world has moved on a lot since 2000 when 276bhp was loads! Having said that, a standard-ish one still feels quick-ish because they are so light. There are so many FF hatches around now with 250-300bhp that 276 doesn't sound that great anymore.
Back in 2000 it won loads of magazine tests, it came 3rd in ECOTY behind a 996tt and a Diablo. It also won the "Best Drivers Car in the Real World" test the same year and then they put it up against a 550 Maranello, the car evo considered to be the most involving supercar at the time. They concluded the subaru was as quick in most situations, quicker in some and just as involving...but not as special feeling. Not too surprising really.
The interior was dated and crappy in 2000, let alone now! It feels very old inside but the ergonomics are great and if you can get a good driving position (aftermarket seats, wheel and wheel spacer for me) it's great.
I use mine for about 15k/year as a daily driver (I commute on awesome A and B roads). It's thirsty (average 19mpg) and a wee bit loud for town use but is perfectly usable.
Cheers

My only issue is that even in summer we still get a lot of rain up here, the yokos shift water quite well and I'm not sure how the 888 would fare?
If anyone's interested there's a nice one for sale here:
