Thanks a lot. Yes they look very different to the the saloons/wagons! Much more presence IMHO.
Never meet your heroes? Well, I would say that the world has moved on a lot since 2000 when 276bhp was loads! Having said that, a standard-ish one still feels quick-ish because they are so light. There are so many FF hatches around now with 250-300bhp that 276 doesn't sound that great anymore.
Back in 2000 it won loads of magazine tests, it came 3rd in ECOTY behind a 996tt and a Diablo. It also won the "Best Drivers Car in the Real World" test the same year and then they put it up against a 550 Maranello, the car evo considered to be the most involving supercar at the time. They concluded the subaru was as quick in most situations, quicker in some and just as involving...but not as special feeling. Not too surprising really.
The interior was dated and crappy in 2000, let alone now! It feels very old inside but the ergonomics are great and if you can get a good driving position (aftermarket seats, wheel and wheel spacer for me) it's great.
I use mine for about 15k/year as a daily driver (I commute on awesome A and B roads). It's thirsty (average 19mpg) and a wee bit loud for town use but is perfectly usable.
Cheers
Yeah, I used to pick up and read every article I saw on the car. I remember the issue of what was probably a topgear or something comparing about 5 different versions, rb5, p1, sti etc.Never meet your heroes? I spent many hours as a nipper in the front seat of imprezas so I'm quite aware of the interior quality, its not really what the car is about.
Hmm I have 6-12 months pondering time, in the meanwhile i'll follow the thread intently

Ahh that's interesting, I know lots of people use 888's on lighter cars like elises etc, you're obviously happy with the feel on the p1?
I might give them a try next time after the AD08R. My only issue is that even in summer we still get a lot of rain up here, the yokos shift water quite well and I'm not sure how the 888 would fare?
They're fine in the P1 and even shift water ok, but obviously not as well as normal tyres, but I drive it happily in the wet and just act sensibly when there's standing water around. They have comparatively hard sidewalls so the ride is firm and they are noisy on the road like most semi slicks. Very grippy and would probably go off rapidly on track.
Biggest issue you might have would be wear as I do only a very small annual mileage whereas yours is a daily driver
Any fears I may have had about the P1 becoming redundant upon arrival of another 350bhp/te 4wd turbo nutter were dismissed this morning.
After a weekend of driving the RS6 the P1 feels tiny, direct, feelsome, noisy, still violently fast!
Still a couple of jobs to do:
Sort rusty arches (still - goddammit)
Quick-rack
Still keeping an eye out for original optional-extra prodrive-recaros.

Thanks FB
The RS6 is perfectly civilised, in fact you'd struggle to tell it has 700bhp, it's heavy, refined, smooth, quiet, comfortable, utterly tractable unless you're being particularly aggressive.
It's bloody fast though, just disguises it's speed. Very easy to hit really silly speeds when overtaking.
