Looking forward to seeing it being assembled - what's the skinny with the Elan next to it Olly?

Waiting its turn at the moment, but is roadworthy, just needs a few tweaks.
What kind of tweaks? Curtains, log burner, broadband?

Would it be possible to make a new one from fibre glass or something similar using the old spoiler as a basis for shape and location of the bolts?

Good man! I reckon some decent glue and a bit of 'back to black' or something might just to the job. Though to be honest I don't have the first clue when it comes to restoring old rubberised spoilers!

leather filler, glue and some black plasti dip...
I saw some rubberised paint or something in B&Q during the week. That could work? Glue wise For interior trim in general at work we use stuff called 1300L, it's a contact adhesive it's pretty strong!

I saw a post somewhere about revitalising black bumpers using a hairdryer to liven it up.

I'll be interested to see you you get on with the spoiler, the similar one on my old E28 is in a bit of a state too.

I was thinking super glue?

On the big split and was going to araldite some threaded bar in it to strengthen it up a bit.
Super glue will stick it, but it'll be solid and have no 'give' in it. Rubber adhesive will bend with the rubber and you get time to move it about a bit if it doesn't line up! + super glue goes everywhere as its so thin. How will you get the bar in without ripping it in half completely?

Only 3" or so either side.

Re: glue - will it need to bend? Plenty of spoiler else where to take up the flex, shirley?
I'd say expansion due to heat etc more than physical bending. Your call bud. Super glue isn't really meant for things that flex.

The only time that spoiler will flex is when he reverses into a bollard.

Olly, we've got an account with Viking if needs be.
Are you going to use the adhesive to stick it to the bootlid, or just for the repair?

I'll give them a ring in the morning and see what's what.
You could do with a smaller tin than a litre if you are just mending that one split.

Would Sikaflex 221 do it? I've just got some off EBay for £8ish.

Re. Sikaflex, that doc, it's all gobbleaduke to me. Same stuff as 1300?
No. It's more like a very sticky black silicone sealer. A lot of bodyshops use it for sticking on badges, sideskirts, spoilers and so on. I'm not sure how good it would be on rubber.

Would the stuff you get in push bike puncture repair kits be appropriate/cheaper?

Vulcanising rubber? Hmm would that distort it? I used some of that black silicon-y stuff to glue a splitter on my polo years ago. I could possibly decant some from a tin here Olly, not sure how quickly you need it though?
