I did get the impression that Olly's was a more solid car and the red one needed a fair bit of love, from what I remember it had been used regularly but had spent all that time outside which had obviously taken its toll, would be good to find out where it went and how it's getting on. I also contemplated a black one he had , the Andrew Lloyd webber car that Tony had started but passed for all the reasons I said earlier. I tried talking my Dad into either one but ultimately I couldn't break his love affair with his Z1, him citing he doesn't need one since he can just borrow mine, which he does!

Oooooookay.
Busy few days. Mainly Michael doing tricky looking bits with spanners and me smoking tabs, making tea and getting in the way.
But.... It runs! Sounds epic too with the new exhaust work.
A few issues:
1) It won't rev past 3k.
2) Dropping oil
3) 3 injectors leaking, then not. Still a bit worrying.
So those bits to fiddle with. MOT tomorrow hopefully.

Missed the MOT man so it's been left there, should be done and dusted by lunch tomorrow all being well.
It is just fantastic. The combination of the new cam and an engine actually built by someone who knows his st is night and day. Feels like it has 50% more go.
Exhaust sounds utterly amazing. Even michael said it sounded like an M1. High praise indeed from him
Pics to come tomorrow from office.

Ok, some photo documentary evidence
So car pulled out to run in the new cam and put it through a heat cycle on Wednesday before the head could be torqued up for the last time.
That all went ok after a few little niggles that made me shriek like a little girl but Michael just shrugged off and immediately fixed while probably thinking about what he's having for tea.
We tried to fit the rear strut brace but it's just not right. So that'll be going back to Germany.
The front was fine but before that the new clutch master cylinder went on. The slave failed just before it came into the workshop, probably due to lack of use and the seals failing, so for the sake of about £75 I bought new master & slave. Combined with the new clutch it gives a bit of peace of mind...
Master going in:
Engine bay finished off. It's a bit Toys R Us in there with the red strut brace, blue Magnecor leads etc but it all works and I've no intention to stand around in fields with old men looking at my polished plenum.
Then really that was that. We pushed it outside as it has got a bit dirty over the last 100+ days in the workshop. Michael runs a media blasting business as well as classic car restoration workshop and the stuff just gets everywhere...
I've offered Dickie Meaden a go in it and he was quite insistent that I leave it totally caked in st. However I just couldn't help myself.
Then that was that. Dropped in for MOT last evening, expecting to hear something over the next few hours. All being well I'll then nip over and get it and then give it a good kick in the guts around the Yorkshire Dales
Describing the improvement in performance, handling and exhaust noise is not hard. It's like the difference between Susan Boyle's and Cameron Diaz's bikini waxing styles. Before it was an enormous scary thatch. Now it is a sleek inviting place that you want to get into and stay forever.
There are a couple of little things to finish before the big euro hoon in 2 weeks, mainly tracking/geo and a bit of interior trim. Other than that the big Bavarian hitman is back on the road. I'm going with my pal Jim in his RS rep fitted with a 3.2. I'm not in any way worried about keeping up

As said last night, really chuffed for you, cant wait to hear it properly.
Im going to take mine out after work to decide whether it falls into the sleek inviting or scary thatch category!! Im expecting slightly overgrown but nothing a trim wouldnt cure

Just had an(other) interesting conversation - a non PHer has read this thread and got in touch. Bit of a collector (hi if you're reading this!)
It seems having a combination of no a/c, no electric seats, windy windows etc actually makes the car more desirable/interesting to people - possibly the whole Porsche lightweight thing. Someone has said this to me before but not someone actually wanting to buy it.
Anyway, an interesting addition to the general chat above with respect to the E12 market.
