Good news smile.

I wondered what happened to this car, it's great to see it's going to continue it's journey on here too.

A little company if I may?

I've had the car for a day now, drove it from Putney back to darkest Kent (near Ashford) yesterday, she didn't miss a beat (after a strange stalling and non starting issue initially).
First impressions are, what a fantastic job all of you have done on the rebuild, I can see that it has been a real labour of love :-)
If Benjj is still reading this thread, the mechanicals are superb, it drives exactly as I remember mine doing 32 years ago.
A few minor issues:
There's a coolant leak from the left hand heater valve behind the radio.
The top end of the motor sounds a bit rattly, does Benjj have the tappet settings for the Piper cam?
The prop thumps off the floor under hard acceleration from a standing start (my old one used to do this and destroy the rubber doughnut on a frequent basis).
It could do with a new carpet, I guess that any E12 will fit, or will it?
I am trying to source the original corduroy material to redo the seats.
I will keep you all posted.

I've found the original blue corduroy material!
It's in a BMW dealership in Germany, there are about 30 linear meters left at £85 per metre. If anybody is interested I can put you in touch.
Does anyone know how many metres I will need to do the front and back seats?

I would make a couple of calls to a trimmer and ask. It's great that you've been able to find some.

Olly, you're a legend, what a fantastic job on the mechanicals!

I don't know what happened to the badge and who swapped the "M" logo to the other grille, but it's back as it should be. The new 535i badge is actually a work of art, it's machined out of ally and anodised.
I was "donated" a new set of plates today by my local BMW dealership (Broad Oak BMW), thanks Sam! But happy to consider anything that belongs to the car.
I need a drivers seat back, plastic adjusting wheel, rear headrests and a carpet if anyone has any lying around.
Do any of you know why there are gaps in the large, black rubber trim that goes around the front bumper? I'm tempted to strip it off and sort it out as one of this weekend's jobs :-)

Are you going to put the slimmer style stripes back on?

Hi Mark,
Did it have the slimmer stripes at any time in the past?
When I had my first e12 M535i in 1985, it didn't have stripes and neither did the handful of other cars that I knew at the time.
I personally don't like them (except on white cars), but I'm open to being persuaded otherwise :-)

Epic thread, took me about 3 hours from start to finish.

My 1st car was a Morris Ital van... but my 2nd car was an E28 M528i with a set of 635i wheels, so this thread brought all those fond memories back.

It was a very cool car for an 18 year old back then. cool

Unfortunately no pictures from back then, it was a lovely burgundy colour too, cannot remember the last time I saw an E28, let alone in burgundy.

Enjoy cool

Sorry to keep banging on, but I just spoke to him and asked about carpets - he has a good blue one, if that's what you're after.

Olly,
Where the rubber trim traverses from the side of the car to the front, there's a large gap of about 10mm for about 200mm, all the way around both corners.
Is the rubber on there with adhesive or is it bolted on?

It's bolted onto the front spoiler/bumper as the pic.

No idea. Maybe download form V888 from DVLA and write to previous owners? I love tracing a cars history in this way. I like the slim OE type stripes like MarkC has on his.
