Yes it's a vinyl wrap, basically a big sticker which is removeable and protects the paint while it's on !
Much like a colleague of mine who used to drive his 320d everywhere with plastic covers on the seats to 'protect the leather', what is the point of this? Why not just enjoy it as it was? It hasn't taken to this new look well, whereas I as really impressed with it when I was looking at it on the other page. The matte white looks a bit 'third division footballer' and the black handles showing through reminds me of the Ford Connect van I sometimes drive at work with it's big black plastic door handles on white paint. At least it should return to standard and hopefully that wrap will protect the paint for the next owner! hehe

110% with you on that. Utterly pointless (unless you're a mechanic in a customer car!). What's the point of keeping the leather nice, when you can't see or feel it? You're just keeping the car fresh for the next owner - why not enjoy it yourself? You're denying yourself the pleasure of your leather seats so that you might add a couple of quid upon resale? Or do you occasionally whip the covers off, like maybe if you're giving HRH The Queen a lift somewhere?

No way that's Llanber isn't it? I work in Ruthin, drive past there everyday.
Wrap looks good
Yes, you are correct, the pic was taken at Ultimate Tinting in Ruthin.

The car was wrapped by myself and a friend who are running Ultimate Tinting on the south coast.

The reason matte white was chosen is because of the contrast with the gloss black. We felt that white on black was the best at showing the quality of the workmanship as any imperfections are hard to hide.

Love these cars- reliable, powerful, luxurious and great value for money. Matte paint will always divide opinions but matte white and matte grey look frickin great on the CLS Grand Edition (although they were a factory option). I would be tempted to cover the blacks bits though but paint the wheels black.

As a promo vehicle the choice makes more sense.

I really like it, both before and after the wrap and you've got me lurking the classifieds now. Looks like a great chariot and as my motorway commute will increase this coming year something like that would be ideal to waft around in comfort

I think it'd look a lot better if you did the door handles as well...

It doesn't work for me but each to their own and if it's done as a promo vehicle then I understand the reasoning.

I love the dark matte wood you get in the Sports, so much funkier than the shiny brown wood in the SE I have.

Yeah, totally understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but it really needs to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated. You can't appreciate the matte effect in the pics yet the gloss black looks nice. I don't think there has been a day that has passed when someone hasn't asked about it and wanted to touch it!

Anyway, back to the car.

Does anyone know anything about these? http://www.electronic-freaks.de/index.php?z0=5&amp...

Would it be quite simple for an auto electrics place to fit?

Dying to get this working as it would be great to phone the car from bed and have it heated up and de-frosted in the morning.

There's a long thread over at bmwland.co.uk in the 7 Series forum (a good resource for E65 beard age in any case) about the auxiliary heater, with no resolution:

If you get it working then let us know!

To be honest i think you've ruined it. It looked awesome before, very gangsta and executive. If you're going to keep the wrap on, finish it by doing the door handles and washer jets

The ones on the front side windows are illegal, but the rear sides and rear window are fine.

No, it looked executive before. Now it looks 'gangsta', and that isn't a good thing! laugh

To be honest, the car is not finished yet as it was a big car and we were running out of days on the course and did not have time to do everything. I will be doing some more bits in the coming weeks.

Myself and a mate wrapped the car on a wrapping course by ultimatetinting.co.uk which was superb. Big thanks to Tim and John our instructors who were excellent.

Wrapping a car takes time and a good amount of skill. We opted to get what we could done to the highest standard.

Some pics of the process -

Basic cut laid and stretched across the bonnet

Bonnet done - Contrast between matte white and gloss black

Rear quarter stretches up to the front and has to be done in one piece

Basic shape cut out - then the real work begins !

Rear door almost done

We were going to leave it like this smile

Rear done

All done (for now)

For anyone interested the GSM control for the aux heater is 399 euro from germany, quite expensive but if you have the Webasto heater you can actually 'phone' your car from the house and get it to defrost and warm up while you have a cup of tea!

No more driving down the road iced up looking through a postage stamp sized hole with the missus shouting "Why didn't you clear it completely before we left!"

I'm sorry mate, lovely car but that wrap looks awful, particularly the black details, it makes it look like a very basic spec car.

Each to their own though, if we all had the same taste then the world would be boring!

Yeah, I knew it would not be to everyones taste but it is the type of thing you need to see in the flesh.

I'm going to the Pistonheads meet at Goodwood on 16th Dec with it so look foreward to seeing lots of PH'ers there.
