Well after another stint in the garage the front N/S corner is now finished, hoping to get the N/S sill panel fitted this weekend too and then that's one side of the tub finished biggrin lost track of time spent on this bit but I can safely say it took a lot of it! I have lost count how many times all of these panels went on and of the chassis, but very pleased with the end result...

S I know the fuel tank is premature and will get it the way but it looks so much better there than on the shelflaugh

Well my OCD got the better of me this evening, the panel gap running along the top of the inner wing has been giving me sleepless nights and despite every one saying I will be the only person that will notice it, it had to go...

So tonight I drilled out the rivets on the top inner panel (including the bd one at the front that I miss spaced on both sides that has annoyed me for weeks) and cut, filed, fettled and fitted some alloy trim to cover the offending areathumbup looks much better imo and will hopefully ensure a good nights keep tonightlaugh with added extra bonus of also having correctly spaced rivets. biggrin

Loving your work so far and I agree that the extra piece of ally trim looks much better.

It'll be time to fit the engine before you know it wink

Hi Hoonigan,

Loving the build and cant wait to see it progress to the finished article, got to be one of my favourite cars ever.

I hope you have seen the onboard footage from the goodwood revival this year, with Kenny Brack driving Adrian Newey's original GT40 ,In case you have'nt seen this great video, here it is -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jF__B1xpJY

Just brilliantly entertaining and gives some insight into the great drivers of the originals racing them for 24 hours back in the day !

Make sure you omit that one from the collection when you show them to a prospective buyer years down the line! wink

What are those seats like? I know they're period but they do look really uncomfortable?

Utterly utterly brilliantly mad driving, awesome driving skills and clearly what wins the race which I luckily enough to see. seen it many times already but thanks for posting it, as you say imagine doing that for 24 hours and lets face it it always rains for Le Mans...

Looking forward to your next update too thumbup

No shame there just the heads taken off and then re-riveted so in fact extra rivety goodness albeit making the car slightly heavier wink...

The seats are very comfortable no complaints at all so far, but I have sat only sat in them for two minutes so time will tell biggrin

HI Hoonigan. Great build by the looks of it, very tidy.

My brother in law and I have just acquired a part built gt40 rep project biggrin Through a combinations of planets aligning and bizarre events. Anyway, just wanted to ask, have you put any sound proofing between the Alu skins anywhere?

Dunno about Hoonigan but I plan on using some of this
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/silent-coat-mat-bu...

Also very important to seal front and rear bulkheads, I plan to use aluminium tape on all the joints.

Well I thought long and hard about doing this but decided not to bother in the end, I fully intend to stick a set of megaphones on it and have no intention of talking to any passengers anyway so figured what's the point, lets face it, it's gonna be fecking loud what ever I do especially as I'm not intending to fit any carpet either. At the end of the day I would like as close to a race car as I can possibly achieve, I will buy a set of ear plugs though...

What kit are you building? Sounds like you have been very lucky thumbup

Fair enough, racer is the look I think we will go for too. Loud is good, but boomy and droney is different. Some of the larger sections of Al will pick up lower frequency vibrations, and the smaller sections will ring at the higher frequencies. If you're really unlucky, you'll have the skins resonating all through the rev range! A friend of mine had this with a different kit car, but it still happened, and it was annoying to say the least.

The kit is a bit of a mongrel at the moment, but the most of it is GTD. A lot of work to be done, and a lot of reverse engineering i suspect. Should be picking her up end of next month.

Nice! Will you be creating a build thread on here or gt40s.com?

I also thought long and hard and again mine will be stripped out racer look (I'm still deciding on if to fit the cage or not) but there will be somewhat of a concession to road use and will be using *some* insulation just to stop the panels resonating. For the same reason I'll be fitting aircon, and although a traditional stereo may be pointless an intercom may be handy (I intend on chatting to the passenger sometimes).

Hopefully both, we may need some real encouragement! Intercom, now thats a good idea! I don't want to hijack this post, but here is some inspiration (or not) for Hoonigan...
