I love this car. Would much rather see the rallying of this era with a full grid rather than the current WRC.
I had this video when I was growing up and must have watched it about 100 times.
I was saying the same to the guys this very day; I much prefer this period. No doubt the new stuff is quicker but it doesn't have the sense of drama imo. I went out in a grp a tarmac spec 185 yesterday and it was visceral. A totally analogue experience. I had this video when I was growing up and must have watched it about 100 times.
I get my fix of that sort of thing from YouTube

You must be very happy with the car now.
I like if all apart from the lamp pod.
Enjoy it!
Cheers bud, I think the spots are my favorite feature but I can understand that I'm absolutely over the moon.I like if all apart from the lamp pod.
Enjoy it!

Car looks stunning! That big vent in the bonnet will do much more for cooling the engine bay than the scoop ever would!
Do the lights still go up and down even with the pod on?
Cheers chunt. The motors in the headlights have been disconnected; you're indeed correct in thinking the lights can't go down with the pod on, the motors would just burn out. The pods removable but I loke it so much I doubt I'll remove it. I'll just have to put up with the higher coefficient Do the lights still go up and down even with the pod on?
Few pics from Rally Day yesterday. The drive there and back was superb. The thing now pulls hard from about 2,500 and I'm able to take it up to 5k now with a little boost. I love it. The handling and braking is something else too, you can feel the edge of the tyre creasing the road around corners and I've yet to wake it in the twisties..
On the Lewis Rally Sport stand
They're not PIAA's they're LIES!
LW made a good park bench
The LRS Grp A tribute car. Went out in it, new pants please..
and this is as arty as I get, on the way home
Done another 20 miles in the car today. It's beyond superlatives. The car is a dream come true.
Got bored so washed the Roulettes, from this (or worse)
to
ans what's behind them

Gooood spot Ranger - dyslexic signwriter? I may have to point that out..
Popped over to Bristol tonight and picked up some track day/alternate wheels. They happen to be Chronos
They'll need a refurb and think I'll whip the tyres off and I think they've been stood for about 3 years, one of the few bargains I've had though; even if I did do £30 worth of super collecting them

After washing the car (again) today I thought I'd see what the Chronos looked like on. Not cleaned them or 'owt yet as they're getting refurbed anyway..
post wash
rear went on fine
the front however
wasn't expected them to foul on the caliper. Got 20mm spacers on the front. The Roulettes are ET47 7X17 and fit fine. These are 6 & half X 17 ET45 so didn't foresee any issues. They only just touch so either shave the 'Celica' off the side of the caliper or get additional 5mm ish spacers for when the Chronos go on.. All was not lost; I replaced the tape on my wheel brace
Well I was down to the last 38 miles of the 2 - 400 hundred run in process taking it up to around 5k so thought I'd go for a little drive. Ended up back near my old house so snapped this..
Next/last 200 miles will be more aggressive driving with the odd 7k rev under moderate/hard boost to really get her used to full revs, then oil change and all done.
There's a few things I need to faff with, I'm replacing the water temp sender, It'll be having two Spals put on the rad at LRS soon and some gauges fitting to keep an eye on things. I'm thinking water temp, oil pres, boost of course and EGR gauge, bloody expensive wideband
Next 200 miles are gonna be expensive! petrol ain't cheap you know..

Well not updated this for a while.
On a sunny Sat afternoon after a Wales win why not..
A few developments, the car is back with LRS at the moment having a few things done. I don't think I've gone over the main highlight of recent months which is, the day I ran it in and changed the oil was the same day I blew it up
It had had 600 miles at varying revs, had performed beautifully and was pulling very strong. Took it on a PH run which was a really good day etc etc. Unfortunately; after it had been run and oil changed in my haste I adjusted the boost incorrectly (coupled with a faulty manual boost controller) and accidentally ran 2.4 bar through it up the bypass .
The result was "bloody hell this is going well" followed by a huge smoke cloud out the back as the ring lands failed and a me realizing I'd just made a slight error.. I wasn't sure what I'd done initially, First thought was thrown a rod out but it was still running so no. It was rough but still going so I tickled it back to my mates house. Parked up on his drive and it was dumping oil. As the ring lands had gone the sump pressurized and blew oil out the breathers. I thought it best to get it home so puppied it the 2 miles or so.
That night I was supposed to be taking it out in the Cilwendeg rally for a shake down, that went out the window of course so I got home, put it in the garage, told the wife I'd blown it up again and went off to get pissed and watch the rally as a passenger instead I'd done about 4 miles all told until I kerplunked it
Night went well, we ended up like this
Anyway, after the car was picked up again it turns out I had indeed broken two of the pistons ring lands which looled like this
Top effort. So, 2 new pistons fitted. At the same time I decided it would be a good idea to control the boost a little more clinically so I've opted for an aftermarket mappable ECU which won't allow over boosting (The Mines P&P had not boost cut facility hence unlimited tear inducing boost). A proper boost gauge and in cabin control also, now set to 1.2 max. The ecu will have two maps switchable on the center console, 1 for economy and 2 power. It also now has launch control useless but why not..
A few other bits and pieces have been fitted; sliders to the Recaro SR3s (they were fixed to the subframes), raised the front suspension up a little. A TTE airbox is now going in with a MUCH larger panel filter for better breathing and as the air box is bigger the battery has been relocated to the boot with in cab cut off. Think that's about it. It's had some road mapping this week and will be finished off on a dyno early next week. Hopefully pick it up next Sat.
And the bestest news everer, I'm off to the Nurburgring in June! I'm already bouncing up and down about the trip and cannot wait. I'll be having 4X Yoko Paradas fitted before I go but she's mostly good to go now pending any other little niggles that present themselves in the next few months. Were staying at the Lindenhof and going from 24th to 29th June. Really really cannot wait. Thanks to Dale Lomas for access to the Bridge to Gantry site/forum, great resource for 'Ring info, the more I read, the more excited/terrified I get.
That's it for now. Hopefully some more feedback if I get her back a week today

A little update. One of the things on the list to look at was an issue I had with the clutch a few weeks ago. The pedal went to the floor on a gear change, couldn't take it out of gear (fun) and a few second later the pedal returned and was more or less fine from that point. Worth a look. Turns out the seals are shot in the master and slave cylinder which was allowing fluid past the seal hence the lack of engagement. This is common with up rated clutches as the heavier pressure plate puts extra strain on the hydraulic system; the seals are probably 26 years old after all and have finally given up. So the fix is to replace both the master and slave cylinders and replace the fluid with ... RBF 600 maybe? race fluid.
Whilst talking, and with 'Ring proofing the car as much as possible I had two extra thoughts. Firstly, I don't want the thing to catch fire and if it does ideally I need a way to put it out so having a single bottle installed unobtrusively under the passenger seat in the footwell; better than nothing. Also, something that's been picking away at me for a while (and in the same vein as the clutch issue) is the fuel pump. The pump could well be 26 years old also and I'd hate for it to fail at any point but especially going to/whilst at/coming back from Germany. If it were to lose pressure the engine could run lean also which we know is not good. So having a Walbro 255lph pump fitted as a safeguard which should also produce a few extra horses come mapping time (maybe).
Soooo I think that leaves the shell and the fag lighter left to be replaced, I'm running out of things to change

Well, 4 new pistons later and it's back. 302bhp with new DIGITAL ECU TUNER 3 ecu and adjustable in cab boost to about 1.2bar.
To be fair it's now a bit of a weapon, all credit to Lewis Rally Sport, top prep and build. The map needs a little tweek for cold running but when it's warmed up there's no stopping it. It has launch control also, makes all sorts of pops/bangs/flames at around 3800rpm at will
Love it
Ready for the Nurburgring at the end of June

Cheers guys
Yea 302bhp Jay but about 250lbs less torque as there's no 34mm restrictor in the intake, just like the 205s in the mid 90's in WRC
There's the LFA! Cheers CC, that's my only shot of it as sadly I didn't make prescott.
My mates IS20 decided to throw the harmonic dampener on an aux pulley and this resulted
have you ever seen the like..?
that's the bonnet he wasn't revving on, just coming off a roundabout.. We couldn't quite believe what had happened. Could help having a little at the situation though.
Waiting for assistance, Celica looks really small huh..
So that was that. Looks like I missed an awesome day at Prescott
