just goes to show what crash regs etc have done to cars.

the other day I parked my merc 190 next to a current c class, which showed a similar contrast

I need to stop seeing threads like these, I'm fast talking myself into a 205 GTi, and agreed that 208 just looks crap.

Personally think the 208 is one of the better looking small hatches.

In GTI spec it looks really good.

Comparing it to the old 205's and moaning about its size etc is just silly these days.

If they prove reliable ill pick one up as a second car in 5 years! I'd like to replace our ageing 206 with a 207 but they're plagued with issues.

Those wheels ruin it, why do they have to over wheel everything.

Your front suspension is very lofty, looks odd.
Its completely standard....always has been alwasy will be!

Adrian has put lowering springs on the front of his red one...I personally dont like it.
I used to have a 1.9 GTI and I'm sure it didn't sit that high.

The ride height looks just about correct to me. It's quite rare to see one that hasn't been lowered. Here's a photo of my completely standard 1.6. Having driven a few I have to say that I prefer the standard 1.6 set-up for soaking up bumps in the road.

I think it looks a bit higher because the arches are so clean/white.

Well I can a sure you my 205 is completely standard and original in the suspension department....and trust me I have owned it for long enough to know!

As someone else above just said so many were lowered or messed about with you could well have had one with incorrect springs.....or they had sagged over time.

Ride hight is spot on....

Well there is that smile

Also you have to remember the front arches are not the same height as the rear ones so there is the element of optical illusion!

Although the bright white clean arches really dont help biggrin

I didn't get on with my arches so much that I went for the Eibach -30mm springs. Perfect match with the standard rear beam height.

However good the new 208 may be I bet if you fast forward 20 years they won't get the attention that the 205 gets now.

As for appearances, it looks like they have tried to make it for such a wide audience to get the sales (which tbh they need) rather than as a focussed hot hatch.

The 205's are lovely! As said though, very high which makes the white one look a bit odd... respect you for keeping it original though.

I actually really like the 208 GTi's. As already mentioned the 206 & 207 were definitely going in the wrong direction, but I think the 208 is a real looker compared to the new Clio RS 200T that's coming out. If they release a 'proper' hot version, they could be on to a winner (if it handles well) as I know a lot of people, me included, are very much put off by Renault only offering a 5 door version of the new Clio RS.
