Thanks for the nice comments, the pictures show it to be in absolutely brilliant condition however there are a few scabs and scars along the car. The sills have also been done at some point but I imagine there are very few 21 year old Ford's that haven't had sills done! The cambelt is going to get done ASAP as it's not worth the risk.

I shall try the rubber glove trick, as I've tried hoovering, brushing and even sticking tape to the seats to see if that will lift it off! Yes many people have commented that it's Inspector Frost's car hehe

There is a J-reg Sierra in Armadale, looks to be in immaculate condition, I see it most Sunday mornings on te way to take our daughter swimming. It looks to be a dark grey colour. I actually stopped this morning and got the Mrs to take a pic of it, great bit of retro motoring.

The one I am talking about isn't a Cosworth, just looks similar to the OP's.

It's a non interference engine, so it won't matter!

(But still worth doing, just in case)

Very tidy OP. My dad's 85B 2.0GL had the same blue dash as that.

'Man and machine in perfect harmony' as the ad went.

Nice motor....thumbup

Had a brand new 1.6 Sierra in August '83, a few weeks after they came out. A823 HRN......Always drew mixed comments, because the shape was so radically different from the Cortina.

Check the arches for rust and change the cambelt.

'Normal' CVH's are (the european ones), and I'd assume this is as well, but the 1.8 is a bit of a weird engine, something to do with the american 1.9 or something scratchchin

Good to see a Sierra out and used. You might want to carry chains though in winter, or have some weight in the boot.

Sadly, my J reg XR4x4 will be going SORN at the end of this month, can't afford the grand or so in insurance and tax, plus bits n bobs that needs doing frown Damn recession.

Seeing the photos gave me a wave of nostalgia from when I was a kid - that flat blue is 'so' late 80s/early 90s Ford as well.

That's one of the reasons I went for a Sierra, I remember seeing hundreds of them as a kid and my dad had an early Sapphire which I loved!

Yes, I was just about to post the rubber glove solution, it works well, it's quick, it's not a lot of effort and it really does the job!

Nice to see one in immaculate condition, usually associate a Sierra making an appearance on Road Wars.

Watching this thread with interest - have an E reg escort that is reasonably high mileage but came from my grandfather in very good condition. Really turned me into an 80s ford man! Good luck with it, it'll treat you proper if you watch for the rot! smile

One thing I love about them, they are smaller on the outside than a lot of "compact" cars. I'm thinking stuff like the MINI here. But on the inside there's a huge amount of space, with a massive boot! The legroom in the back seems much better than the current Mondeo, which is only slightly smaller than a bus.

That dash looks really odd without a big Esso sticker on the passenger side with a driver name under it.

Thought I would do a quick update on the old girl.

Been using it for a year now, almost daily. Returns good mpg and is very reliable!

Apart from when it ate a tappett...

And the brakes were rebuilt...

But it went back up to Scotland several times without fault! Even coped well with the severe snow in Kintyre in March last year.

The sills were beginning to look tatty as hell at the rear. So a quick coat of spray on waxoyl stuff.

Also got fed up with the cracked, split and ruined old Laser wheeltrims on it. So I picked up some n.o.s pepperpot wheeltrims from a MK1.

Plans for this year is to sort out the corrosion on the rear arch and sills, remove the dents from the front wings and get the paintwork up to a good standard. Might also be tempted to do an engine swap. Any recommedations for a engine swap?
