Well I think it's time for a little update.

At the start of the year I said I wanted to sort out the rot on the rear arch and the rear sills. Also to get rid of the dents in the front wings and the scratches down the sides from when the previous owner crashed into his garage, many, many times bless him.

So a month or so ago I picked up one of those cheapo halfords rotary car polishers and set about doing a really good T-cut and polish of the car. I really didn't think it was that badly faded at all but it has buffed up lovely! I don't have any before shots but here is one taken after I had finished with it.

So last year before the MOT I sprayed some of that waxoyl type rubberised protective stuff all over the sills on both sides, to make it a bit better looking for the test, however I was told then that they would not pass another MOT like this. Throughout the winter I noticed them getting worse and worse and starting to crumble away! So two weeks ago I put it into a bodyshop which had been recommended to me, where the sills were repaired, a large rust bubble on the rear arch repaired along with the straightening out and repainting of the wings. I've had the car back a week now and I'm still chuffed to bits with how good it looks now!

It looks really nice and clean now! I was toying with engine swaps and such like however for what I use it for, it would be pointless and to be honest a waste of money. I do have plans to sell both this and my Capri next year, possibly looking at Sierra Cosworths or similar. But for now I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is!

Superb! I love seeing cars like this, especially when kept in original spec.

Went all over europe in the back seat as a 9-11 year old - really comfortable car and the 2.0 Pinto didnt seem to be too hassled about lugging a family of 4 + luggage at 80-90 mph all day.

A659 KLF where are you now?..

As a family we had an A reg 1.6L and a D reg 1.8LX, I think the last of the Pintos, initially company cars and then purchased to run as second cars, so for a time we were a two Sierra household. I learnt to drive in the 1.8. I seem to recall the clutch on it being changed under warranty very early in the car's life and it was always very heavy and judder prone. Taught me the finer points of clutch control though. Not sure if it was just a Friday car or if this was a known issue with them?

I beached it on three wheels over a grassy knoll, taking a junction too fast soon after I passed my test. A bloke in a Fiesta van pulled it back onto the road with a chain he had in the back and it drove fine, despite a nasty smack up the kerb and I never even told my Old Man :-o After 5 or 6 years the inner wings were totally shot and IIRC it was eventually sold to a bloke with a bodyshop who planned to tart it up and use it as a daily shed.

Nice to see one being kept in good nick.

The first car I ever rode in was my dads 2.0 glsi sapphire. I loved that car!
