^ Yeah, mate.

These are the standard alloys, but most UK owners seem to have went for the 19". I actually think these look much better than the 19" alloys*.

  • not to mention will ride better, cheaper tyres, less unsprung weight...

Are the 260M really hard to find now? Love the build by the way.

Apparently (from what I was advised) the thieves were the ones who actually tried to cut it in half!

The car was recovered in this state.

I assume that the rolling circumference is the same as the 19", so are you sure about the unsprung weight? The extra rubber on the tyre isn't light either.
Would be genuinely interested to know, ta

AS I understand it, there's very little difference in weight between the 18s & 19s, but the 19s are stronger due to being forged

I'm in the 19s camp personally

Ok so a small update for now.

Other parts of the car have now been painted. I'm hopeful that it will be back together by this time next week biggrin

Fantastic

Question, can you use E92 front guards, front bumper, bonnet and rear bumper,
Or do they all have to be E90 stuff?

I understand that the rear arches need to be E90 in order to get the door profile right, but wasn't so sure about the rest.

Keep up the good work.

Update from Townley today. The car is starting to finally come together (bodywork phase anyway) now that most of the parts have been painted.

I decided to switch the trim to high gloss around the doors and window frames - The M3 mirrors I purchased a while back had high gloss bases so I needed to match up.

Apologies for the resolution of the pictures but at least you can see what it's going to look like.

Thanks

I've used an E92 M3 front bumper and front slam panel. The bonnet and front wings are E90 M3 only (not sure about the arch liners at the front - I ordered E90 M3 versions). I don't think the E92 M3 actually bonnet fits as it's a different shape at the rear.

The rear bumper can be made from either an E90 or E92 M3 section as you need to create out of two bumpers anyway.

Sorry to go OT OP but does the sticker on that car say "M3 T V10"? Is it a turbo V10 engine under the hood?

Insane!!! Is that Evolve kit? Although some might say forced induction spoils the ///M character...

Thanks E91M3,
So excluding drive line modifications, one’s shopping list is something like this;

E90 rear wheel arches
E90 rear wheel arch liners
E90 or E92 rear bumper
E90 or E92 rear cross member and suspension links
E90 or E92 exhaust box and hangers
E90 front guards
E90 front liners
E90 bonnet
E90 or E92 front bumper
E90 or E92 front cross member and suspension links
E90 or E92 side skirts

New set of wheels
M3 Mirrors

which floor for the boot do you use?

E92 stuff seems to be a lot easier to come by.
I’ve been trying to work out what NP62 has done to cut and shut the rear bumper. Looks like he has retained a bit more of the horizontal section along the tail gate, and done away with the bumps below the lights.

regards Ryan

Hi,

Most of your list is correct, however you won't be able to use E92 M3 side skirts and you will need E90 M3 mirrors. You will also need to consider inner rear arches from an E90 M3 unless you want to fabricate.

There are a number of brackets that you will need to fit the headlamps and front wings to the car (use one of the BMW online part catalogues for guidance ), 4x hangers for rear box (2 welded either side) + another 2 for the exhaust hanger at rear (standard E91 cars already have one of these attached to the lower section of the rear panel).

Plastic boot floor can come from any E9x 335i, 335d or M3 car as they all share same part. You will need boot floor heat shield which is specific to these models to fit the rear exhaust & you will need to relocate carbon filter (another bracket from same models as boot floor).

Re the bumper I believe that It's an E91 M-Sport top section with an E90 M3 lower part. I have used an E91 SE bumper merged with an E90 M3.

Hope that helps

Looking good buddy.

Looking forward to seeing some higher res pics. How long do you reckon it'll be until it's up and running?

Thanks - I'm going to pop down to the paint shop later this week so will try and get some better pics as I'm itching to see it.

I plan to get it running before this summer with the M3 motor and DCT installed as I have a few trips that I want to take it on.

Ok some more pic's...These are the final items to be painted!

LCI Tailgate (in background) is being fitted as I think it suits the E91 better.

More to follow soon.

interesting. iprresume you are getting a workshop to do the work that does custom work?
i asked around at two of my local shops and they didnt want to know about it, especially the rear fenders. they mentioned that BMW use a special process for attaching the body pannels. I have know idea if this is correct as its something i have never looked into.

found this interesting.

Could you please go into more detail about attaching the rear fender, as I find it intriguing and would like to know more? i cant tell if its been welded on or some other process.
Did you get replacement E90 m3 sedan rear quarter panels from BMW?
