Big progress today. Cage was dropped to weld the tops and the screen got its corner gussets. Tomorrow the centre cross will be boxed in to the swan neck. But still my favourite part to come and they're the WRC a pillar gussets. biggrin

It doesn't matter how rigid any other car you drive is, it will never be as rigid as this!

Top work.

Trust me guys, I don't ever want to have to use the cage lol
But any off you have in a 550+ HP car isn't going to be pretty. I'd rather be safe than sorry. The car is a tool, and it gets driven as such. I'm not interested in any more power. I just want it as light, stiff and focussed as possible.

Jesus, that is some cage. What are you using it for? Rock climbing?

Euphemism?

Epic build, although once done, it'll surely handle more power.... wink

No bracing at the back to increase rigidity?

Agreed - some top-notch welding there...

Why the swan-neck? I assume its like that for a reason, as straight would surely be stronger

Also - an un-educated question about cages in general - clearly there's a fair bit of very strong cage there - the only bit of the car that isn't protected is the floor. In an epic off (ie rolling it or end-over-end) isn't there a danger that the floor will be a weak point? I guess what I'm asking is why the cage doesn't extend across the floor as well

Steady lads, it's not finished yet. Lots more to come. The floor is double skinned and the seat rals provide bracing in that area and the cage will triangulate across all the suspension points.

Ref the Swan neck Hans bar:

The swan neck is there as it allows the driver and passenger Hans bar to be at differing heights but using only one bar. FIA regs also state that harness may only be connected to no smaller than 38.1mm dia T45. If it were in sections then the centre cross would also have to be made in 38.1mm too as the Hans bars would fix to this. As you can see, my centre cross is only 25mm dia and this is able to be done by the fact that the harness are connected to 38.1mm. This reduces weight where allowed. Its been built to drawing which means it will also get a Homologation number. This means the shell can be easily log booked and used for competition.

The cage is an exact replica of the Prodrive designed and built item in a WRC S12B

Frayz, you going to have the passenger seat lower in that case? My crystal ball sees some crazy seats on order! Dibs on the prodrives laugh

Been a couple of months since I looked at this thread, wow!!! Great work and love the attention to detail on the cage to get it homologated. Can't wait to see it finished.
