This is a car forum, why not blah, blah, blah. My question was not a critisism but pureley to try and understand the thought process and desired outcome of the project.
If the end result a is Wrc car,why not buy a Wrc car as a starting point.
Because they will cost £200k today and they aren't exactly road friendly! The engine would need a total rebuild / transplant as they are not built for what the OP intends to do (Max Torque can provide details). Then there is the gearbox, a full 6 speed sequential with dog gears and pneumatic shift. Not great for driving around town or on the road at all really. Plus it will need a rebuild every few 1000 miles. oh and the software is designed for the current engine not a much slower responding road engine the OP would have to install. meaning the shift times and speeds and torque management would be totally out of sync and thus cr@p! Brakes will make the more noise than the engine at low speed. If the end result a is Wrc car,why not buy a Wrc car as a starting point.
WRC cars a built to be raced. This car will be built to look like a WRC, and probably go like one to, but be a lot more friendly to drive.

This isn't a dig at Frayz in any way, just trying to follow the thought process.People are free to spend their money and time on what ever they like. I follow this thread and enjoy it just like the Espace/Lexus thread and the Astra/LS V8 threads in the past.

I understand what a WRC car is and the impracticalities of them.If you want X and X is already made, why not buy X and modify that rather than starting at A.
I think that's already been answered hasn't it?So you think buying a WRC car then modifying it into a usable road car is better than modifying a road car into a WRC spec usable road car?
I thought this was going to be a track only car now? Due to the mods to the monocoque this will have to go through IVA now to be road legal.
I'm not sure why everyone is questioning the logic of the build, it's clear the owner loves the modifying process and end results... if it was ever finished in his eyes then there would be something else to do the same with.
It's a bit like the football fan...They spend lots of time discussing the upcoming match, travel miles to watch it, enjoy the game but are disappointed with the result... Doesn't stop them watching The next game etc.

Awesome build, level of detail is incredible.
With to respect to why, why not?
People spend million's on yachts and maybe spend one week a year on them, people spend millions on supercars and never drive them, people spend thousands travelling the world for what?
If everyone was the same and bought everything ready made out of the box we wouldn't have some of the insane creations we see on PH!
You only live once and there is no point being the richest man in the graveyard ...

This thread reminds me why I always felt sorry for the Prodrive Welders/fabricators every time their beautiful cars came back looking like this:
The amount of man-hrs in a WRC shell is mind boggling!
How he ever walked away from that is staggering. I can still remember watching in from on board...The amount of man-hrs in a WRC shell is mind boggling!
Nothing to report really.
She's as you see her above.
Cars built like this are usually in the company of some real competition cars and mine is no exception. So unfortunately when you have an international WRC car that's currently competing come in, they tend to take priority.
I have to respect that so it is what it is unfortunately. Hopefully not too long and ill have some more fabrication photos to share with you soon. Glad you like it, thanks for reading.

Hi Frayz,
Congratulations on the wedding! This is a truly warts and all build, and I am truly taken aback on the amount of fabrication that has gone into this car! This is a proper, detailed engineering led build that has been done the right way, and that is from the ground up. I'm looking forward to the updates on this one.
