Must admit given the attn to detail I thought Mr Heath and Robinson had gotten some involvement, hope its temporary...

Aren't leaf springs still in common use in American sports cars, Corvettes used them up till not long ago?

The Corvette still does. It's a transverse leaf spring though, as part of independent suspension.

The main problem with a leaf-sprung live rear axle is the poor axle location - they move around quite a lot which makes things a little interesting. The extra locating arms on the Mk2 Cortina compared to a lot of leaf spring setups will probably make it a lot better though.

As mentioned before, the leaf springs are a bit scarey!

May I suggest losing the lowering blocks and have the springs de-cambered? Lowering blocks are a recipe for bad axle wind-up.

Great engine - had loads of experience with mine in an Esprit. Should be good for 385 - 400 hp.

V8FOU, I am not phased about the lowering blocks on the axle,

Its having a bench seat, auto gearbox, column change, electric sunroof etc. so no way am i expecting it to out handle anything round the bends.

Just building it for the challenge to see if i can get it done and look standard from the outside.

( Would be rude not to run it up the strip though )

Love your Bentley

Copper pipes run the coolant through the cills to the rear mounted rad.

An alli expansion tank is being made to fit to the left of the petrol tank

Also still got to run transmission cooler pipes from the rad, forward to the gearbox.

All the stuff in the boot is now wrapped up.

Rad, fans, servo, battery, header tank, expansion tank, relays for fuel pump and fans, all the wiring and hoses, incl the transmission cooler in the radiator.

And all boxed up

Still got a reasonable sized boot
