Obligatory update question?

Can't wait to see this finish - I can't remember if this has been said, but is it going to be used on the road? It must be far too wide (really hope it is though!)

Looks good, I'd have preferred it not stickered up tron legacy style. Would have looked like a stealth bomber

I like it, just a shame it's a soft top. Would have been like a GT car.

This. The aggressive body kit would look so much better on a car with a roof. With the softop it just looks a bit max power imo.
Kudos to the OP for modding such a car in the first place though.

This is basically the A8 'GT3' kit as used by the competition cars isn't it. Outrageous on a convertible but great fun.

Awesome reading through this thread.

Are you going to do anything with the roof mechanism for weight saving? I don't know but I wouldn't suppose there was if you still wanted it functional.

Do you have any pictures of the interior currently?

Looks good! The rear isn't as extreme as I thought it would be.

Like others, the stickers / graphics aren't my thing, but it still looks mean and personal taste etc...

I'd have the windscreen surround painted / wrapped the same colour as the body though.

It would look good as a coupe, but a convertible GT3 styles R8 - fairly cool in my opinion biggrin

ETA: Cheers Danny

Agree with most here I think, kit looks okay (bar the wing) but not a fan of the stickers. Bit... Halfords.

Interesting project and enjoyable to see, but in my opinion it looks a bit of a mess.

The great thing about the R8 is its build quality and understated design, matched with its performance. By replacing all the original panels with Max power CR alternatives I think it has cheapened the whole thing.

There are lots of gaping panel gaps, bits that look stuck on as an afterthought such as the front wings that match (ish) the bumper but then just finish in oblivion in front of the doors, showing bare tyre.

The side skirt doesn’t match the lines of the original car and looks to be held on with cable ties…but not to worry that will soon be sand blasted to oblivion from the stones coming from the unprotected front tyres.

The mesh at the back looks really budget and you can see chunks of the original body work under the kit all over.

The wing though is comedy, as are the stickers.

If you wanted to get attention with a super car why not just go for a bright orange Lambo? If you wanted your R8 to go faster why not spend the time/effort on carbon brakes and engine mods, rather than trying to save a few KG’s by replacing parts?

Glad you have done it as it’s fun to see …just don’t understand the “why”.

Went back and had another look after your post, and must agree with most of it unfortunately. The rear bumper really is a mess... look at the number plate! With all that mesh around it looks like what my mate did to his 1.3 Fiesta back in the college days.

I would 100% rather have a standard one.

Same here

At first glance I was fully into the idea, Read the above and checked back and it does indeed have some poor quality issues, however, If the OP has done it himself in his garage which I assume he has then I think its a fair effort

Ok, I've had a look back, and now you have mentioned the numberplate and arch details etc it's starting to annoy me.

I still think the idea is great, and I think with a revised rear bumper and adjustments to the body kit it could look really nice.

For having done it as a DIY in a garage - very brave, just a few finishing touches would sort it out.

The wing supports need to be changed though - they look to cheap (I'm sure they are not).

Being as the owner didn't post these pics on the thread it might be a bit harsh to judge this as the finished article

I think your last point sums it up - he mentioned a few posts ago that this is work in progress and hasn't moved from that position yet.

It needs some final alignment, the windscreen surround in black and the stickers are a bit, er, of a personal choice, but other than that it looks mean as hell.
