It's not a dealer it's just an ordinary joe. He has had the car for a year or two I think. I've asked him for a brief summary of any faults and he text me the following. I don't want to derail this thread any more so if anyone is interested please pm me and I'll send you the guy's mobile number.

Ok so it a 2004 done 128000 miles and mot till june. Its got a slow puncture on front I'm told its a cracked alloy. Lasts about 2 days. The passenger seat belt sensor is faulty. There is a faulty parking sensor on the front. The ESP visit workshop is displayed on console and has been for 3 months.

Its now November 2014.... my E46M3 had the rusting clamps problem plus the BMW (and Quickfit) response that I needed to spend £1k plus to replace the exhaust....the Peugeot clamp answer is unsatisfactory but my local garage Lusardi Motors in London N1 (020 7254 2881) provided the answer...new clamps from BMW (one of which needs machining to fit) split in half and welded together once fitted over the flared ends of the exhaust. I now have oem standard fittings and all is now well ...

Hi Mark - finally getting around to ordering this microphone but there seems to be a lot of confusion over the part number - can you help?

Hi Stuart, the latest grey backed mic is #84316938762. I don't know the part number for the small grille but there is a used one on eBay at the moment.

I'll have a look next time I'm at home. I work away all week. Rear brake setup pic

OK thanks. I know the caliper; it is used on he rear of the Elise and some TVR models. It has the same mount spacing as the four pot caliper model which will give you the correct pad depth to fill those discs, which look to me like M3 rear discs, not front.
I'm ready to order some new pads and discs for this rear setup now. I don't really know what I need to order so any pointers I'd appreciate.

Calipers are I am quite sure CP5111's andthe pads CP2399D43. In your case the depth of the pads doesn't match the M3 disc so I advise searching for a pad with a deeper depth; the D43 at the end of the pad part number means Depth=43mm.

Ok

I've changed the rear discs and pads. I could only find the CP2399 in 43 depth so that made the buying simpler. I wanted to buy APF404 compound but could only find Ferodo DS2500 in this shape. So that's that. I did notice the discs are sided left and right but there isn't an obvious way to tell the difference. I just fitted the new discs to match the old ones coming off and hoped this is right.

Now it seems the fronts are problematic too. I assumed I had a the 5070 caliper so ordered some pads for these. Now they have arrived and they look completely different. After some more googling it looks like I have the 7040 caliper - http://www.apracing.com/product_details/road_car_u...

Notice there are now bolts to remove the pads. How do I get them out - do I just hammer out the pins?

Yes, on the 7040 you just drift out the retaining pins.

I have Tarox 6 piston calipers on my E30 M3 and could only find Ferodo DS2500. Ideally I wanted Hawk but Tarox use a really odd commercial pad shape so choices were limited. (Ford Cargo or Mercedes G Wagon) I must say though, the DS2500 perform really well.

Mark - thanks for the tips - the hands-free mic is now neatly installed and looks factory. Pictures speak a thousand words (and a single cut wink):

You got your cams in and supersprint manifolds yet mate?

Am considering cams myself now, would I need followers or are stock ones ok or is it dependent on what cams you go for?

CSL headers do you know if they flow any better than stock regular headers? I know all M3's after March 2005 and Z4M's got the CSL header as standard. I know they weigh less as thinner material which no doubt changes the sound, but do you know if they flow any better?

I haven't yet - I really must get my finger out in the New Year!

Replacement followers are recommended for all cams, nd specifically the DLC version for anything 14mm lift or with a duration longer than than 288. There is however much debate about swapping out the followers for the 280/272 or 288/280 kits; there are a number of people on M3F who have swapped cams and maintained their original OEM followers, and so far, so good. This is obviously only in cases where the original followers were OK.

I found that Cat Cams in the UK will polish and DLC coat your standard followers if they are in good, unscored condition. The cost for that is considerably less than new Schrick versions. Personally I don't want to risk anything so have gone with new Shrick followers.

The CSL headers do flow better than pre 2005 versions, but its marginal. Throttle response is said to be improved throughout the rev range. If you can pick up a set for a decent proce then I'd do it as every little helps, but my first port of call would be some Supersprint cats and X pipe.
