I thought the F10 looked great until I sat in it. The standard headlining and rear parcel shelf are put to shame by the ones in my Skoda, which is not exactly the last word in luxury. Both pieces in the E39 are vastly better. The feel and flex of the dash on the E60 and F10 are not great either and it was clear that the car did not have the same feel as an E39.

E39's have their negatives though, the lack of rust protection is shameful and the brakes are weak. I would hope that both issues are addressed by the E60 and F10.

The biggest problem with the E39 now is that whichever way you look at it, its old. It can fool you into not realising quite how old given almost every modern feature is present on an E39 - Xenons, LED rear lights (Which they deleted from the first E60 and still don't even fit to the F30?!) Nav, DSC with ABS+CBC etc, park distance control, dual zone climate - the lot. But then you realise the E39 first appeared 17 - yes 17 - years ago. Wow.

Even the very latest E39's were now built over a decade ago aside from a small handful of run-out model Tourings.

And age gets to everything in the end unless its a rarely used garage queen. So where the E60 and F10 win over the E39 is that, well, they are simply not old cars yet (Though the E60 is heading that way, given the number of rattles in the 3 year old one I drove a lot I'd hate to think what a pre facelift 2003 E60 is like).

I'll get on it

Fox:
Seeing that you have the same wheels as me, do you mind telling me how much (and where from) you get tyres for and how long a set generally last you? Cheers.

I currently run Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's. They are about £180 each for rears, £130 each for fronts. I get about 15k out of the rears.

what size and profile are they? they're more expensive than that (certainly the fronts) on my 7er.

They are not the same size as the E38 - 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear.

are you sure they're 265s?

mine are 235/50/R18 front and 255/45/R18 rear. basically the same price front and rear, i believe it's because the 235 and R18 tyre is quite rare with a "45" sidewall.

Of course I'm sure! hehe

The E38 and E39 Style 37's are different wheels with different tyre sizes.

Nowhere, because he's got an E39 not an E38. The E39 doesn't take 235/50/18.

Here's the buttons on the wheel- some of them supposedly control the Bluetooth

And the buttons on the Nav system.. although I'm sure they are all the same

The Nav is DVD MK4, grab a CD online to upgrade it to 3D maps. Will post up I a pic of mine to show the diff.

On the steering wheel, the voice button is voice control, pretty crap, the R/T is the telephone button I think.

On the stereo the phone symbol starts/ends the call. You select the number on the phone book (through the menu's) then press call.

Will get a photo of my ulf and cross check.

Wow, managed to cock up that quote.

Right, here is my ulf that works perfectly with my iPhone 5. To activate, you go to ignition posn.2 while holding the voice key on the centre arm rest until it it beeps and comes up on the dash 'pairing' then it's just straight forward.
Video link to E46 same but buttons in different place - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GabQvx2hfUg&fea...

ETA: can see mines a later module. Doesn't look original to the car as mines a Jan 03 build but the ULF is 04 build.

and a picture of the nav (a shocking picture but you get the idea it's 3D

However no luck frown

From off

Switch to ignition 2 (so all dashboard lights are on) whilst holding voice button on armrest.... nothing.. bit stumped... could it be possible the module isn't connected?
