Haha! You'll have to be more persuasive than that though, sorry. Unless you're offering to come over here with your own sparky stick hehe

They do say a car should be good in (at least) two of the three areas:
  • Mechanicals
  • Bodywork
  • Interior
It is 75% ok on the first point. Engine runs well, but despite the 'new' clutch, it judders. Synchro on 2nd has been gradually getting more crunchy over the last 6 months. Despite new engine mounts there's a lot of vibration in the cabin even when the engine is fully warmed up. Rear brakes "need work" - pedal is low, handbrake high. Probably the auto adjusters aren't automatically adjusting.

Bodywork is good overall except the bit of rust on the hatch and the newly found crusty sills. With some polishing, it'd look pretty good.

Inside is not great. Not long after I got it, the glovebox handle broke off (till the handle breaks off and you have to get a doctor to pull it out again), the headlining started sagging so bad the only solution was to remove it, drivers seat has a VERY annoying problem where the back of it kinda sags to the right so you're doing an involuntary gangsta lean. I can straighten it out by pulling it forward but it doesn't last long. It's getting worse and getting more and more irritating and uncomfortable.

So it certainly doesn't meet the 2/3 rule and must go. Apart from that, it's all good.

would you get much for it scrap value over there?
Unfortunately I had to scrap my Mondeo when I first moved here from Germany, got €75 for it frown I'd guess the Golf would fetch a similar amount, but hope it doesn't come to that.

bangernomics is always a gamble between, will it last another year or; sell it working or run it till its uneconomical to fix and scrap it.
keep it up. always better the devil you know.
To an extent. There comes a point where the devil you know is just a constant pain in the backside and when you have no love for him, you just want him gone... in exchange for a devil you don't know silly

What are you thinking of getting as a replacement?
I'm fairly sure I know what I want next but don't want to commit to it in writing in case [insert reasons]!! The car I'm looking at is still a small German, but with more cylinders and opposite-wheel-drive to the Golf smile

This is going up for sale very very soon as I have bought its replacement which ended up being quite different from what I had in mind. If anyone is in the market for a very cheap LHD Golf then you know where to find me smile

SOLD! For a grand total of €325 in cold hard cash. I wanted more, buyer faffed and umm'd and ahh'd, complained that the cambelt is due in 30,000km and a couple of other minor problems. We had already agreed on 350 by email and phone, I'd make it clear that I wanted more than that and brought the price down for her. She pushed for 300 but I didn't let go. They decided to leave it but not 5 minutes after I got back in the house, her bloke was at the door offering 325. We shook hands and it is gone.

Quite what some folk expect from a car in this price range is unclear to me. She said she drives 30k a year! She is going to have fun keep putting petrol in it in that case.

Anyway, it's gone and I'm pleased!
