Looks a fun project any ideas what you want it to look like?
Thanks, just a few pictures running around in my head at the moment and a few bits of bent wire!

Its projects like this, that both inspire and depress.

Inspire as its plain crackers in a good way and depress as I know I will never have the skill set or knowledge to do this.

Hat well n truly doffed
Cheers, never say never its up to you.

Very ambitious project.

Can't wait to see the result. Any chance you could post a sketch of your vision for the finished article?
Sorry no sketches, body design will be done on the job if you get my drift, that’s the fun part.

Sump looks really low.

Great project!
Thanks, sump clearance will be 120mm from the road and if required the suspension can be adjusted.

bookmarked - top work.

What is your background? you are clearly 'handy' and understand the basics of getting everything properly straight, but to what level - it's a promising start for sure. What inspiration did you take for the chassis design? the engine is going to be set quite far back by the look of it, is that on account of future packaging constraints or to aid weight distribution? are you going to stay carb or are you going EFI?

Top marks so far though thumbup
Time served welder fabricator, so ok for getting things straight, desk job now in an engineering environment. Chassis selection was based upon chassis stiffness which rules out the ladder and normal size doors for access which rules out the space frame. So the backbone chassis was selected, the only thing I do not like about the backbone chassis is the lack of side protection. I will address this point by incorporating a steel floor and side impact beams in the doors. The engine position is to aid weight distribution and the twin carbs/manifold will be changed for a single carb mounted on a new manifold.

Very true! however you cant beat the BBC for BHP! wink
Agree, BBC for big bhp and torque figures but let’s not forget about the increase in weight!

great project, I own a car that was built by a man In his garage that who made everything, even down to a plaster of paris / wood buck to make a set of moulds from it to make the one single (hideous) body shell.

its that vile im not going to put any pictures up (its really that bad!), and anyone in the right mind would have just chopped it up for its valuable running gear years ago - im determined to get it back on the road to celebrate the 'man in his shed' who was brave/daft enough to spend 8000 (yep, 8000) hours building it

cant wait to see how this progresses!
Cheers, sound different get a build thread up once it’s painted.

Yeah, i was thinking that but maybe you made the same mistake as me here.

This is front mid mounted rather than rear mid mounted.

Is it going to be a drag car type thing or American muscle car? That carb in the middle of my viewing platform would do my head in.
Please see earlier post. The carbs and manifold are going to be changed to a single carb setup and a lower manifold. So the view will not be restricted at all.

I guess it isn't going to be the lightest of cars, but with that socking great lump of an engine pushing it along it probably won't matter much ;-)
I use an Applied Weighing load cell to measure the weight. I did the chassis with the running gear, wheels, floor and door beams first and then the engine and box next and you can see from the graph (not using the best fit line) the total weight is 860kg. Estimating the other components/materials the curb weight will be approx. 1250-1300kg. Not that bad!

Top news. I do like seeing someone take their skills and apply them to their own projects.

Inspirational.

Don't fall into the kit car builders trap of not getting other experts in for other parts of the car. That's why we get beautiful kits with crap chassis or fantastic chassis and ugly as sin looks.
Cheers, I do understand your comment about using “other experts for other parts of the car” but the challenge to myself was, can I build a car from scratch? So it’s just me no one else.

Will this have/need outriggers to support the bodyshell?

What rust prevention/coating are you planning on the chassis?

Have you contacted the new tvr peeps for a job? :-)

Great effort btw.
Cheers, the car will have a steel floor, bulkhead and side impact bar inside the doors for protection. To seal the metal work I will spray paint it at each stage during construction with cellulose paint. When finished 2 pack paint will be used for the body and some sort of sealant for the underside.
