Looking at the rear uprights/hubs. . what will link this to the chassis ?
New radius arms will connect the hub to the chassis.

The crossbeam and lower links maintain the correct toe angle of one wheel relative to the other, however due to the relative angles of the trailing radius arms, body roll results in the entire cross-beam and lower links pivoting slightly about the crossbeam's mounting points, thus inducing a small amount of passive rear wheel steering, which may result in significantly improved handling. When the Jaguar components are re-used in other vehicles, the differential is often rigidly mounted to the chassis, different radius arm configurations are used, and the passive rear wheel steering effect is lost.

[/quote]

To many parameters involved to say how the loss of passive rear wheel steering will affect the handling.

It's threads like this that make me keep coming back to PH (after reading some of the trash in other less 'car' oriented parts of the Forum ) . Fantastic stuff - just don't leave it too long between updates as we will need a regular fix smile

Am I right in thinking this project has been running for a while and the posts are not in realtime ? If not, amazing speed.

Also agree you should be getting in touch with Les Edgar smile
Thanks and yes it’s been running for a few years and I intend to update regular.

biggrin

Do you have a mental picture of how it's going to look or is it literally 'make it up as you go along'?
Yes, I do have a sort of picture in my head and thats about it, I just go with the flow and when I do a bit I like it stays.

Just love this build. So we have by comparison;

  • 1250kg ish - about the same as an Ultima GTR
  • Square box section of a larger diameter
  • Lots of triangulation!
I would wager that the torsional rigidity (moments of twist) would be better than an Ultima chassis and you haven't had to pay Ted for the privilege wink

Cracking project! I think it's going to have a touch of Lola T70 looks somewhere down the line biggrin

Bookmarked thumbup
Thanks, the chassis should have good torsional rigidity and this will increase when the chassis side panels are fully welded in.

Roughly speaking, what body style will it be - SS100 or XJ220?
For the body I am looking for good aerodynamics and downforce properties, so no SS100, front engine so no XJ220.

Looks even more impressive now. The back wheels are reminding me of Mad Max, I think it's the tyres - anyone sad enough to know for sure?
Cheers, new wheels will remove the mad max looks

I bookmarked this thread when it was made, fully expecting to never see it again, yet another legendary PH thread where the sum of fk-all happens, the OP disappears, sitting hunched over his PC, his shoulders bobbing up and down as he giggles at the stir he's caused.

I clicked on this thread again, surprised it had gone to seven pages, I thought I'd see seven pages of derision aimed at no-one.

I was wrong, this is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life, I can't wait to see how it all turns out. biggrin
Thanks
