Having had the pleasure of seeing/hearing the Napier Bentley giving it some beans I can only congratulate you on the mentalness of this idea.

Jeepers.................

The owner of the SD1 with the Meteor engine is Charlie Broomfield. Damn nice chap. I am going to see him next week for a look at his beastie.
I was going to ask if you knew of Charlies SD1. Its a beast of a car, built by a complete nutter.

I look forward to what you are going to come up with!
I seem to remember he had trouble finding a transmission that could cope with the torque, last time I saw it he was using a double decker bus 'box as it was the only thing he could find with a torque converter sturdy enough (and even then he thought it was borderline).

Along with the 'Scratch Built Car' thread, this is one of the most interesting projects on PH at the moment. Good luck!

I wouldn't think that a Minerva chassis would be strong enough, wouldn't a phantom two rolloing chassis be a far better starting point?

great project though

No he is using a jag box! He is using a x3 stepper box from a truck to increase the output shaft speed by 3 and thus devide the torque by 3. The problem he then had was finding a torque convertor with a high enough stall as the engine sat at say 1000rpm idel would have a output shaft speed of 3000rpm.

There was one on eBay very recently with a BIN of £5750. Supposedly up and running.

bow Awesome stuff OP, couldn't agree more with your statement that life is short, and anything that makes it better needs doing!

Have you seen the price of a Phantom II rolling chassis - if you can find one!!!!

With a welder, strength is easy to add...

I will try to get some tomorrow. At the moment it is only a pile of rusty parts.

The wheels for the engine dollys arrived today and the steel should be here tomorrow.

The project will fit in around other things. Today has been spent replacing the lower wishbones on my Discovery III. They were, as expected, a bd to remove and had to be cut off with a reciprocating saw and numerous blades..... Also new discs and pads all round.
Gearbox oil filter tomorrow and fresh oil...... another bugger of a job.
However, I have probably saved almost £1K in labour at the dealers (so I can pay for those plugs for the V12!!!). They can do a service and stamp the book to hold the s/h value.

My trip to Charlie's will have to wait until next week.

I may also have to do a day or two's work soon too.

Sounds like a great project! I'd love to do something similar but sadly with a lack of space, money and a V12 I had to make do with drawing my aero engined car of my dreams smile

Paul, Any reason for not just building a chassis? You could tailor it to your neededs more than. Maybe a similar design to No Sound's just bigger! smile

Chris.
