Further progress smile

Intercooler fitted

Turbo fitted, and oil & water lines plumbed in

View from the top of the turbo

Tight fit with the intercooler pipe, washer bottle and headlamp wash jet. The AVO kit is a really well engineered product cool

Installation should be finished tomorrow, and then first start smile. Unfortunately my new rear exhaust is still somewhere between Chicago in the USA and the UK, so Fensport will be fitting one of their systems to get the car running. What a fantastic company to deal with!

Had heard a lot of good things about Fensport and also see their project cars out a lot.
They are a really fantastic bunch to deal with. Not exactly local to me (actually about 116 miles away), but I would not trust my car to any other tuner. You hear / read so many horror stories about how tuning companies mess clients around. Fensport is just the opposite, and go out of their way to help, give good sound advice and go the extra mile. beer

The turbo/actuator seem quite low down in the engine bay? Or is that a trick of the light? I assume it just has an under tray to protect them?
The GT 86 does have a full metal undertray, which fully protects the turbo and actuator.

How is the engine being managed, is the standard ECU able to be reprogrammed using something like EcuTek, or is it running a full standalone unit?
Standard ECU with ECUTeK re-programming.

Well how did the first day go? It must have been great picking it up for the first time.
Put very simply, it is a totally different beast to the standard GT 86. If you want a fun car that is great on the twisty bits, but unfortunately is capable of being embarrassed by a raft of hot hatches and oil burning rep mobiles in a straight line, then it is not for you.

If, however, you want a true sports car that goes as well as it looks, then this is it! smile

The power delivery is unbelievable, there in no noticeable turbo lag at all - just press the throttle in any gear, and it flies!

The suspension set up I have on the car, together with the 9.5 inch rear wheels and 245 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires puts the power down really well. There are some lovely 'test' roads around Chatteris, and the car is really planted. Unbelievable!!!!

OP, is it rude to ask how much the mods you have done have cost?

It is a car worth really considering if its "sensible" - read man maths - money.
He gave a hint earlier in the thread, probably around the 40 grand mark including buying the car.
What he says rolleyes

In my mind, it is most definitely a car, at what it has cost me, really work considering. In my opinion, every penny (and there is still more to come weeping)has been worth it.

Wow that is tidy! Very factory looking! Good choice on the black silicone too thumbup

How does the turbo oil drain work?
Some kind of scavenge pump? Electric or mechanical?
Thank you. It is a mechanical oil pump that is located at the back of the engine, and runs off the back of the RH camshaft. There is also an oil reservoir tank right off the turbocharger itself.

Absolutely superb project.

What kind of turbo is it?

Looking forward to some figures, videos and a dyno chart!

So what was the final power output after mapping?

Very interested to see a graph if you have one.

Top job OP clap
Thank you wink It is an AVO 18/49 turbo. Unfortunately, the new exhaust was delayed in getting across from the USA, so, in order to get the car back onto the road (i need it for work next week), the standard rear box has had to be fitted as a temporary measure. As soon as this is sorted, and the car is remapped with the large exhaust, I will get the necessary figures, videos and dyno chart sorted. It is currently running approx 270 bhp, against the original 285 target. The boost drops off over about 6500 rpm, due to the restrictive rear box.

Great! Thank you for the kind words wink

I take it the oil exit on the pump is on the camshaft? Very neat.
Does this also take care of any oil breather issues? I see the oil resevoir has an extra port for something.
There is also an oil separator / breather tank as an option, which has been fitted to my car. This is attached to the near side diagonal strut brace (next to the battery).
The extra port on the oil reservoir is an oil breather line which is plumbed into a return which replaces the standard oil filler cap. This can be seen on the nearside of the oil filter in the top view photo I posted earlier.

Think it's between £35 and £40k.
Holy st. Loveley car but ill stick with the 17k fiesta lol
How a person defines value and what they are prepared to pay for their car is probably one of the most personal issues out rolleyes If this wasn't so, there would not be the incredible variety of makes and models of cars on the roads today that there are.

As I posted earlier, I am changing (to me improving, to meet my very specific likes and desires) my GT 86 - the cost is not a consideration, only the grin factor smile

Its so nice to see people modifying (I think I spelt that wrong) new cars, the guy who did my wedding car bought his Commie GTS brand new and within 10km had driven to a local tuner and had all the exhaust replaced and remapped.
Stuff the warranty and make the car how you want it.

What are the plans for this car, track days/fast road/shows?
Thank you. The car is my daily driver, so nothing special planned smile Having said that though, the Toyota Sprint Series does look like fun!!

Lovely car which addresses and rectifies all the issues of the standard car. The car will now be performing like a sports car should, and with the new wheels, also looks so much better then the standard car.

This is now definitely a car to be enjoyed on a daily basis.

Good work OP.
Thank you very much smile

I enquired of Fenhurst what progress they're making with their turbos and they pointed me to this thread. cool
Very interested to see how this maps out and how it compares to Ian Litchfield's supercharger install when it becomes publicly available.

Your spend is above my (current) budget, but as I'm trying to be patient it gives time for the pot to grow. hehe

Very nice and I'll watch progress with interest.
Best of British! Huzzah!
Thank you very much, M'Lord smile

I can't be the only one who looks at it on the RB5 wheels and thinks "ooh, that looks really good", can I?
No, I think it looks great on those too. I really don't like the style of the OEM ones. They look very Halfords.

Lovely car OP!
Totally agree with the comments re the standard GT 86 rims, they definitely look like they come out of the Halfords Ripspeed catalogue tongue out

When I had the RB5 rims refurbished for my winter tires, I asked them to be re-sprayed Gun Metal. They turned out more grey to me, but don't look too bad I suppose. I don't know how they will look on the car now with the revised suspension - will have to wait for winter to see wink

If Toyota built and sold gt86's with this kind of spec. How much would they sell them for?

Also. Awesome car.
At least £35k I think. Great competitor for m135/a45.

Or, look at it this way... £15k for a second hand GT/BRZ next year and £10k for the turbo kit.
The problem with trying to 'cost up' any modifications on a new car, is the fact that you are effectively replacing a lot of the standard components, with out getting any rebate for them. In Japan, Toyota sell a very basic, stripped out version of the GT 86, which would form an ideal basis for what I am doing to mine. For example, it comes with 16" steel rims.
The costing proposed above based on using a second hand GT/BRZ, and adding the mods I have done, would basically bring it back to the cost of a new one, so not too bad really smile
