Bit of a forgotten car the XC90 largely unchanged since launch in 2002.
All the best with it, ours is a great workhorse and has been 100% reliable (so far).

Following with interest.

I think the system in the XC90 even now remains the same as this - its Volvos forgotten car really..... the XC60 we test drove had the nicer and more modern system. Even though its quite 'old tech, it actually does the navigating part rather well, and the POI list is very extensive and surprisingly accurate. Cant grumble too much!

Do you know why they got rid of the subs post-08? I read somewhere it was to do with fitting the rear AC, but seeing as my car doesnt have that it doesnt altogether make sense.

If you know of any tips n tricks for the ICE/RTi ill be glad to hear them smile
Yes, I've just checked, they haven't upgraded to the new infotainment platform.

I'm not sure why the stopped doing the sub, but packaging issues sound about right - the sub box is massive! There was a big update to the infotainment system at some point, so it could just be down to the new platform. The system in your car will be very similar to what Aston Martin fit to their cars.

I'm not too familiar with the system on that car, so no insider knowledge from me. Sorry.

That looks like a cool bit of kit. Does it replace another module on the CAN bus? I write a lot of CAN simulations, to simulate the rest of the car when I'm testing something on the bench, but things seem to get messed up when you sending messages that are already being sent by an ECU on the bus.

My Volvotech CANBUS function extender finally arrived! smile

Quite a neat little thing, not exactly a bargain but its good for geek points. I should always be able to flog it on for a decent amount too.

Theres lots you can do with it - dial sweep, auto window functions, mirror dipping, displaying speed etc in the digital window.

All set up via the computer.

Mmmmmm I like that^^^^^

Me too ! Which models and model years will it work on.
Can I do the same thing for eg on my 02 S60, or my 04 XC90 ?
What did it cost ?

I always wondered why the windows didn't work off the fob like vw/bmw etc.

Do you have to leave it plugged in to the OBD2 for it to work?

Put the filter on for your car in the search, choose the MFE or CFE (car dependant) and then from the download page, download the desktop software.... once thats running input your VIN on the settings tab and itll let you preview exactly what it will let you do with the car..... plus they are releasing new FW all the time with new features smile
Nice one. Thanks.

Have you got your DICE working? I wondered if the windows from key fob function is programmeable through that?

I managed to brick my e60 with INPA (embarrassing being towed to the garage for that) so to be fair I'll be letting someone else connect DICE to my car LOL!

DICE stuff looks pretty cool, similar to the VW VCDS system by the looks of things but more intuitive. Nice addition for the car thumbup

Could the chip/credit card thing be a fancy USB key ?

Loving the new cars by the way.

Mine got rear ended yesterday in traffic - new bumper required but the replacement will be colour coded and I'll get my spare front bumper cheeks painted at the same time.

Silver lining and all that!

getting the estimate tomorrow, its over a grand though.

mine has a detachable tow bar so the car hit the bumper which didn't crumple as the tow bar was behind it - polo was mullered.

Congratulations on the sprog, prams are indeed expensive, and by the time you've bought the car seat, ISOFIX base and carry cot we had enough change for a takeaway from a grand!

A Bugaboo Bee fits in a Mini boot, but most of the expensive big ones don't which will either save you some cash, or mean you need another car!

Stokke or Bugaboo for us.

€1300-1600 eek

Thats a set of 20" wheel and tyres.

Gah!
We went for a Quinny Moodd because it has gas struts so opens itself up, so you only need one hand. The Stokke is really nice though, we got a Stokke cot but stopped short of the matching buggy, the Bugaboo was a bit too big and didn't fit in the Mini Clubman quite as easily.

Remember a Maxi Cosi Pebble and base will be €400+ on top too...!

Have I accidentally logged onto Mumsnet?

By the time our son reached 2 we had bought 3 prams/buggies and had been given a forth! The forth one was my man buggy - it's hard for a dude to not to feel self-conscious when pushing a pram, so try to get yourself the toughest looking one possible for your 4x4 - the girly designer one can live in the MINI! biggrin

I too bought a dog rack - £30 for a genuine one, its fabric netting and folds away into a neat pouch when not required.

Those side mouldings look nice, I have managed to negotiate colour coding of my front and rear lower bumpers as part of the crash repair which all takes place next week.

Currently trying to find a tyre dealer that will supply and fit Nokian winter tyres to my 17's but not having a lot of luck. The tread is down to 2.5mm (which on a tyre that big looks very illegal) and I now have a choice of re-shodding the 17's or continuing my quest for reasonably priced 18's with some decent rubber attached already.

The search continues....

I've mentioned my bro's 53 D5 XC90 before, but now he's selling it and I'm sort of tempted but very wary. He has spent quite a bit taking it from 80k to 116k miles. When he bought it from a Volvo main dealer they put a new rear diff and intercooler on it, so the mail things have been sorted, but an issue with the power steering has just cost him £550 to resolve.
So for £5000 is it a bargain that has had most of the expensive stuff done, or is it a money pit in waiting? I believe it is still on the original autobox.

A quick autotrader search suggests it's about the right price, but at least I know this one has been cared for and exactly what has been done! It's only really the autobox I'm worried about. There was a water leak into the cabin which has been sorted too.

I've seen a few manual D5s - shame my bro's isn't. I wonder what a recon autobox would be?
