Really wary of oiled air filters as they can royally f up the mass airflow units through contamination of the sensor with filter oil - that and they let more dirt through (the bigger holes in the filter) than a normal paper filter.

In other news I went up Clee hill in Shropshire for a snowball fight and a chance to test out my new nokians - very impressive, no skidding and in the "W" setting even went proper off roading in a mini blizzard- 7 people on board with the dog in the back too !!

Alas another set of reasons not to sell the xc90 and buy a sportier coupe .... Yet.

We have an 04 XC90 with 132,000miles now, added 40k of those in 3 years - brilliant family car, does evertything asked of it without complaint, have been looking to replace it but can't find such a good all rounder. Ended up looking at a 10 plate xc90 but seemed pointless to spend another £15k just to loose a few miles and get a newer car. Think we might be keeping this until it dies

The silver calipers look good, as do the BBS wheels up close. Are they a genuine split rim? Make sure not to torque the wheel nuts too tight, if you have a flat they might not come off again!

Wow that's not bad at all! Plus it can pump tyres accurately I'd imagine. May have to invest when the funds allow. smile

Ive managed to get the the CFE canbus module software working on my £70 HP Stream tablet today.

That makes it a very handy way to connect to the car smile

How do you find the Stream? Been contemplating one...!

Blimey, that's a big decision.

I bought 525i sport as a run about car to keep the miles down on the xc90. I bought the Beemer cheap enough for it not to be an issue if I get bored with it. My xc90 now has 67000 on it and it's a March 2010 plate, bought it in 2013 with 30000 on the clock so I'm going to try to get it down to an average of 5-8000 a year instead of the 20000 + per year that I am currently doing in it.

I have to say though that I have only had service items, tyres and 2x warranty claims (swirl flaps and the alarm module) in the last 47000 miles (and I suspect there were no claims prior to these)

I am again wondering if the polestar chip in yours has had an effect on the drivetrain and other parts, I hoon mine around (and it's quick now with the new, clean, intake manifold after volvo broke mine fixing the swirl flaps) and I don't have any knocks bangs, grinding noises. I even take mine off road through deeeep mud (fully loaded with the dog in the back) with no ill effects. It has astonished me if I'm truthful

My xc90 is currently running a very close second to the wife's v40 which has only needed a rear spring (pothole) and a thermostat in the last 13 years!!!!!

Not sure I can let mine go, what would I replace it with???

I'd give a vote to the X5. My dad's run one from new to its current 190,000 miles. Drives better than a lot of cars, and doesn't rattle or creak. It's thrown a couple of bills but nothing massive.

Also, RE. The '90 and the noise, do these have diff fluids that can be replaced?

A lot of people here in Switzerland buy ex lease cars from Germany because we don't have to pay the local VAT, and ex lease cars are sold with VAT added onto the price, not sure if that's an option for you though as you're still in the EU and I guess the tax saving is a local one rather than actual VAT.

Why not go back to shedding again, maybe an early 2000s S class, or a 750iL?

Replace it with another XC90.

I'm back to considering them again, and I came across this beauty.....

I thought Audi A6 all roads had expensive reliability issues? Or is that just the old ones?

How about a Skoda Octavian Scout? Some amazingly cheap lease deals over here in the UK. Do they lease cars on the continent?

Friend at work just replaced his E91 320d M sport with the latest model 320d SE.

It really does feel like a quality car and a step up from the E91 quality wise, so a 330d is going to be even better.

I have a habit of wanting to move on when a car develops a fault, but then I put my head down and get it sorted and I end up quite satisfied once it is resolved!

Then I sell them on before anything else goes wrong............. confused

If it's exported outside the EU do you still have to pay the VAT? If not then try and find a buyer in Switzerland- the Euro to Chuff exchange rate makes it a cheap car and it's a very 'Swiss' type of car so there should be demand. Yes, it's a hassle, but might make the numbers stack for you.
