2009 XC90 D5 Summum - an end to the sheds!
Discussion
My brother has a 90 and suffered the gearbox failure. He has an old school friend who has worked in an auto box repairer's since he left school.
IIRC, when my brother's box went, he said that he paid c.£2k at mate's rates for the fix. His friend said that when the Volvo MDs get these in with box failure, they don't touch the car themselves but simply call him. He recovers the vehicle, fixes it, and returns it with an invoice for £3k. Volvo then proceed to charge the owner £6k!

the main reason for me not buying a manual was that you need 3 legs to operate the controls :-
Foot operated handbrake with pull handle release on right hand side
Foot operated clutch
Foot operated accelerator.
Hill stops involve:-
pull up to stop on footbrake, clutch in, select neutral, clutch out, depress parking brake, release footbrake.
Hill starts involve
Depress clutch, select first, bring to biting point, pull handbrake release and with a twang of release off you go....
except if you stall it you then have to catch it on the footbrake, then reapply th parking brake with your left foot, depress clutch, select neutral, re-start engine, select first, find biting point, more welly this time, release handbrake and drive up hill.
Try doing that whilst towing or fully loaded and with the rubbish parking brake on the xc90 you can see why an Auto is soooooo much the better choice!!

Not really an issue for me, I drive a manual Merc...... Foot operated handbrake with pull handle release on right hand side

Except when it comes to re-sale.I would expect a lot of private sale potentials to be put off driving the manual, and if you take it to a dealer to trade in then I would expect to be kicked even harder in the balls for having "the wrong transmission".
Volvo stopped making the manual version some time back through lack of demand.

Good going
Still waiting for my bolts to arrive from Germany so that I can put the 20s on..... gave it a wash today, Amber Black inscription really does look spiffytastic.
I also got a reply from Volvo HQ re: no Nivomats.
Their answer was tough titty because it was bought via the Diplomatic Program..... furry muff, cant win them all.
The OBC is now demanding its regular service, but I am going to stretch it until I am back in the UK at Xmas, so that I can take it to my trusted indy (VolTech in Hull). He wants £255 for the 4th service, compared to £400+ Volvo want here in NL, plus he will do a better job of it!
Saw Chris on Thursday, he's keeping well and very busy. Still waiting for my bolts to arrive from Germany so that I can put the 20s on..... gave it a wash today, Amber Black inscription really does look spiffytastic.

you so need to get your bumpers painted and a silver moustache - will post pics of mine now its been painted (collecting it Monday) :-)
Meanwhile I've been given a 13 plate 3.0d X5 which is amaaazingly quick compared to my XC90, will be a shame to hand it back but its just a loan car - sigh.

They sanded the all the plastics smooth, then used high build primer, then flatted it, then painted it with a plasticiser in the paint - job done.
I don't know what the prep time was but the car was all done from drop off to finished in 5 days including dismantling and re-assembly.
I have a set of plain black plastic front bumper cheeks to sell if you wanted to have a go at it yourself pm me if interested,
Even if you just sanded them smooth, and applied high build primer from a can ready for flatting and painting you would be taking 50% of the prep work out of the cost of doing the front of the car...
