This could be an interesting thread. Without wanting to put a downer on things, my bro's earlier XC90 had all the major issues sorted at the time he bought it from a Volvo main dealer but as still had a number of issues. Also, my cousin has a newer one, but I'm not sure how old, and that stranded him in France and was pricy to fix.

Good luck though, great cars.

Good luck, euroboy/ A lex/ Kaptein.... wink
My older brother was going to buy one of these for work, but he opted for a VW Caddy and bought a Boxster S too.
(He drives like a granny though hehe )

Look forward to positive tales on this.

AWD (the driveshaft splines) and the gearbox issues were fixed by Volvo with the 2007 facelift.

Reading around the 2008 and later cars are all round pretty solid. Things still go wrong obviously, but its not the case that things WILL definitely need changing at some point, like it is with the earlier models.

At least I can be reasonably confident of the sellers honesty, seeing as I sit next to him at work quite often..... any problems and ill simply have to beat him to death!
That's good to know, I really like these and they're amazingly cheap compared to a Disco or similar so will probably be on the short list for my wife's next car.

I like it, seems a good spec for an XC90 and looks smart. Buying without a test drive is definitely the way forward too, live life on the wild side hehe

Have you considered sticking an extended warranty on it in case any faults come up? Might be worth investigating if its got the potential to throw up big bills

Nice cars. Me n the missus are pretty content with ours. It's a little older than yours, and the petrol version, but otherwise pretty much same spec. The premium sound system is awesome.

Looks good, and you've bought new toys already, heh heh, I'd do the same. Enjoyed all previous threads, this one is bookmarked as well.

I'd keep the tips. Don't look original, but look good anyway.

Is there a buyers guide to these somehwere that the PH massive can recommend? The specs seem to change a lot and frequently from 09 onwards, and finding out what the new (post 2007) problems are would be useful. Can't work out the models for love nor money - Active, SE, SE Premium, does a Lux pop up there too (or was that pre 07?) Executive, R-Design, R-Design premium..... ?!?!!??

My bro seems to see an avg of 31mpg all the time in his older D5 with the 163bhp engine, whatever or wherever he is going - southern France or around town and usually fully loaded with wife, 4 kids and all the crap they need.

Tips look good. I love a shiny pair of tips.... wink

I have pretty much the same car as this except 10 plate.

Have owned it for a few months now- so far :-

Interior front alarm sensor module failed = alarm going off every night - fixed under dealer warranty
Steering angle sensor failed = DSTC /ABS inactive warning if the car was parked on full lock - fixed under dealer warranty
Swirl flaps linkage failed = Lack of low- midrange power - fixed under extended warranty

All in all the warranty saved me a few quid so far as the first two were £400 and the last one was about £150 - I went with a main dealer warranty to avoid any "issues".

Mine is still on 185BHP but am considering the 205BHP upgrade, when I first drove it I thought it was a bit gutless but when they fixed the swirl flap it improved tremendously! - worth getting the fault codes read via the obd as this fault wasn't showing any lights etc.

Mine has averaged 30.3mpg, its comfy, the stereo is LOUD, and apart from squeaky plastics which I am dealing with one at a time its been brilliant.

Shortly it will be graced with a set of Nokian winter tyres - then I await the snow.

I took mine greenlaning on some B.O.A.T. and it did just fine, scratched both sides but have mopped them back out!!

All the gearbox woes were sorted a long time ago and as for the d5 engine its bulletproof apparently.

Mine cost £19500 on 36000 miles in the UK - new they are £40ish - so EU80K is mental!!

I bought a 11 plate front bumper from ebay with the silver moustache (trim behind number plate) on it - stripped it and swapped it over- now looks a year newer!

Also I replaced the orange indicator bulbs for silver ones which flash orange - result is a much improved rear too.

£90 for the bumper (and I now have spare grilles and corner pieces
£4 for the bulbs.

Next up a set of 18's, polestar chip (maybe) colour coding of the lower plastics and chrome detailing to take it to 13 spec.

I have 3 x 10" woofers to go in the back but the physical woofer (dog) and the good standard from the stereo means I will probably never fit them..

If you buy the 20" wheels then let me know if you want to sell your 18's

Will let you know how I get on with painting, one school of thought is high build primer, and paint with plasticiser - the other is sand the unpainted panels smooth then wrap.

I will practice the chrome trimming on the spare vents I have too.

The bumper came up out of the blue on ebay- I had been looking for one for 3 months so snapped it straight up.

Wheels come and go on ebay but invariably have either st tyres with loads of tread or good brand tyres with no tread - the search continues..

I imagine the 20bhp upgrade etc can be felt when its fully loaded - mine is practically empty 90% of the time but when we took it on holiday - loaded to the gunnels and with 3 bikes on the back I could have done with a bit more poke but then again the swirl pot was broken hmmmm

Maybe remap next year when this warranty is has expired.

just noticed you'd need the 2010 grille too- it has a much bigger Volvo badge which isn't in the black square.

Found a guy in the states that will make you a Volvo badge to say anything you like - I'm considering LOLVO - but would need another 200BHP for the car to live up to its name.

Got to love the Eurocontrol tax dodges!

Looking at the navi screen I think your car must be just before it swapped to the new system I worked on. Glad you like the audio system - that is my lot too. The subwoofer that was fitted until 2008 weighs a ton, the enclosure is huge.
