I'd happily spend up to £3k on a 182 providing the mileage was half decent, circa 60k and that both belts and dephaser had been replaced very recently.
Gearbox should be on that list too. They are at the age where they will all start to go pop.

(says the man who has now done belts, dephaser and gearbox!)

A full suspension refresh is well worthwhile looking out for too. Anything that hasn't had it will be a long way off how it handled from the factory.

Became the proud owner of my own 182 yesterday, I can see what all the fuss is about.

Lovely example. I must bring mine back up to scratch. I have cooksport springs and a whiteline arb on stiff setting, really helps settle the car under braking. Re: gearbox issues, mines just hit 61k anf the box is fine, 3rd is rarely reluctant to slip into the place (usually the first to go).

Next up for me is poly bushes and set up biggrin

I've got Cooksport springs on, looking at a whiteline this year.

My gearbox is sound, doesn't struggle to get in any gear smile.

Very nice, good colour as well!

I keep looking at these in the classifieds.

With my GT off the road at the moment i'm getting bored of the current shopping car (1.0 corsa) and thinking of swapping it for one of these.
Do it.
As AGK has said, do it. You won't regret it, similar quid quality to the Corsa but with soft touch materials though. Spec on them are good too with xenons as standard and climate.
Am actually seriously looking at getting a 182 to replace our runaround now, any tips on what to look out for when viewing one ?

Check for full service history, cambelt a need replacing every 5years/77k. If the belts have been done and it sounds like a diesel at idle the dephaser will need replacing. If you search YouTube for 'Clio dephaser' you can hear the noise. While a noisy dephaser has never caused engine failure it's a full cambelt replacement job to have it changed.

Apart from those it's just your usual car stuff to look out for. So far the only thing that I've had to replace due to it breaking was a rear shocker burst, 2 genuine ones were less than £80 from a dealer on the Clio forum.

If you find any, if you show me the thinks I can give me opinion on them if you'd like smile

Lovely car! Was looking at 182 Trophy's before I settled on my 200. Need to get it on track, looks so much fun!

Looks like a good example. My Inferno with Recaros was only 1 of 8 to leave the factory that way. Still miss it after selling last August. Only reason I sold was that I moved out of the country. frown

As a minimum, fit new OE dampers when you do this. Makes the world of difference!

Also replace the steering rack bushes while it's apart. They will be at least 10 years old now and past their best.

Boxes seem pot luck if they last or not. My car gets tracked a lot so this may have contributed. It went from having a slight whine in 5th to blowing up in a few hundred miles. Full rebuild from Agency was only £300 odd though.

For the person asking on things to look for, water pumps can fail too. Just an added bonus if you find one with it replaced.

Got rid of my ktec racing air filter today for a more favourable mod, a whiteline arb. In place of the air filter I've got a ktec panel filter, with a silicon elbow in a standard air box.

I did Blyton last week and to my pleasure my cheap alloy wheels didn't explode like some thought they would, first thing was to try and find a starting point for the tyre pressures. I'd read on here that you had to run them at quite a high pressure otherwise the sidewall could end up with excessive wear and fall to bits. Initially I had it at mid to high 30s and the car just wasn't happy and just seemed to bounce about everywhere.

After speaking to a friend with a 106, he recommended I try around 26psi cold in the tyres and take it from there with running a couple of PSI less in the rear tyres too. Needless to say I gave it a shot, first few laps were a bit wobbly but once the heat got into the tyres the difference was amazing. By the end of they day my tyres looked something like this

It was a great day and met a few people too off the forum.

Gave the car a much needed wash after last weekend, the wheels were filthy from brake dust and I even found a few bit of rubber stuck to the inside of the alloys too!

Whilst I had the alloys off for cleaning I was checking the tread to make sure there wasn't any damage and found a stone embedded into the tyre, I removed it and it had lodged itself in quite deep. There's also still signs of the tyre melting, I thought this would of warn away by now or when it was all coming off down the M180 and hitting my back bumper!

and finally one of the car cleaned, not bad for a daily track car that turned over 109k on track last week!
