Before you dismantle the fuel system, try this stuff http://www.cataclean.com/. I've used it s few times and had some really good results, especially on cars that haven't been used.6. Sort rough running - remove injectors and send to be cleaned, pump redex through fuel lines.
Keep up the good work. My father had S class Mercs throughout the 80s and wouldn't even look at anything else. They are from the good old days when they were built to last.
Just personal opinion, but I think that your epic wheels would look better/more subtle in all silver.

Looks absolutely lovely, subtle and yet menacing. That said, if I found a really scabby example, I think I'd be tempted to subject it to the "1000SEC" gullwing/widebody conversion...
So bad its good There is something about those extreme 80s stuff like Treser, Lorinser, Artz and Rinspeed etc kind of stuff, so of its time.
Lovely motor, is it just me or have 80's and early 90's Mercs become really really popular recently? Especially with blokes 35+.....
When a lot of us that age would have been late teens or early 20's.....
I've got a 95 E320 coupe that I love, and my friends all with fairly new BMW MB Audi models are all after old Mercs to use now and again, not for investments or anything but just because we really like them
Would love one of these, the older SL model, G wagon, old S500, any

It will be 3 years next month I have owned the 560 SEC. Time for a bit of thread resurrection and some (small) updates.
Panels have been dropped off for paint.
The centre caps have been painted but have come out to do dark. I should have taken a wheel over when I dropped them off so they could be matched. I will take them back, they are very good at the Wheel Specialist in Ferndown and I am sure they will sort them out for me.
I've purchased 1 piece of chrome for the rear bumper, 1 is good to reuse as are the joining caps. I still need to buy the main piece for the rear (expensive at £200 ish).
Items 4, 8 and 10 next. Does anyone have a period Becker wireless they would like to sell me?
Also any recommendations for a good mobile auto electrian in Bournemouth?
All for now will try and post some pics once the painted bits are back and on the car with the new chrome.

Jobs to do;
1. Source Lorinser centre caps and get painted to match wheeels, probably from ebay.de
2. Finish prepping bumpers for paint and refit.
3. Purchase Rear bumper chrome, new or good used.
4. Remove sagging headlining.
5. Prep and primer boot lid and passenger front wing for paint.
6. Sort rough running - remove injectors and send to be cleaned, pump redex through fuel lines.
7. Get a mobile auto electrician to (1) remove old defunct alarm, (2) find battery drain, possibly fit battery cut off switch, (3) give electrics a general going over - sometimes the seat electrics and windows work sometimes they dont (4) remove old stereo, speakers and crap wiring (5) install Becker and new speakers.
8. Buy Becker head unit, some new speakers and wiring.
9. Investigate noisy starter motor - possibly get refurbed by http://www.jasm.co.uk/
10. Replace wood trim to interior.
Once the above is done I will MOT then decide how far I want to go with the bodywork.
Plenty to do, no real rush.

Hi
I need some wheels refurbing and was wondering what The Wheel Specialists are like as there is one near me in the North East as I have two cars that need the wheels doing and looking round there are so many companies to choose from.
Any suggestions appreciated.

SEM in Sunderland is better and much cheaper but miserable and not especially helpful to deal with.
There is an outfit in Swalwell which has been recommended to me but I forget the name.
I've always used SEM but it's such a ball ache dealing with him.
What a great thread and an even greater car. Respect for all you've done so far to a car that (as many others have already said) looked like a money pit. I have 3 really good recollections of SEC's -
Miami Vice - SEC's in most episodes owned, by some very bad people
An 'entrepeneur' in my home town when I was in my mid teens had a 500SEC with a bodykit, all in black. Registration was JAY 220 to reflect his surname and he always wore all black, usually baggy suits...
A school friend's dad had a navy SEC with the plate SEC 560 or maybe the other way around. I can't remember as it was in the 80's... He was a famous fisherman for Britain I believe and had a shop selling carbon fibre rods even back then. I wonder what happened to that car/plate...???
Bookmarked and waiting to see this car on the road again

Spotted this car sat at a specialist near Castle Coombe, made some enquiries and purchased it. Not quite purchased 'unseen' as I did stop and have a look at it but i've not been underneath it or heard it run (although apparently it does...). Pics from Google Earth how it looked when I first saw it;
I was mainly attracted to it by the period and staggered Lorinser wheels which are quite rare. It also has a Lorinser steering wheel and maybe some other Lorinser bits. No badging on the back so a quick mytextcheck revealed it is a 560 with 4 previous owners and no record of write off stolen etc.
I have some more pics from when I stopped to look at and I will dig those out and post.
I have a E500 Lorinser stored at present, hopefully returned to my garage end of October, beautiful interior unmarked, bodywork in Silver, really looking forward to having it back home again.I was mainly attracted to it by the period and staggered Lorinser wheels which are quite rare. I have used The Wheel Specialist in Durham ( near Coopers BMW) and found them very good, excellent 1 day service and very helpful. Would definitely use them again. My wheels were some 17" tatty BMW alloys that they transformed; looked like new when I got them back.SEM in Sunderland is better and much cheaper but miserable and not especially helpful to deal with.
