1987 Mercedes-Benz W126 560 SEC - project
Discussion
When I was a kid I used to walk from school to the station past a nautic blue 420 SEC with grey leather. It was an stunning car. Whoever owned it replaced it with an equally lovely s124 320 TE in beryl blue over mushroom leather. He obviously had taste and money. There wasn't much of either in Newcastle in 1993. Still isn't. Looks like you're almost there with this car if you're turning to the details.

Not really, I just like doing the easy jobs!
No harm in that - it's those kind of jobs that make you feel like you're progressing, and at least gives some satisfaction. You're doing a great job, I have a real love for these cars.
I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that I grew up in East London (SA) where many of these were built. I used to see them being road tested regularly, and even got a lift in one once... (appropriately, I was hitch hiking in a suit!)
I also did some work (non car related) in the Mercedes Benz plant (then called CDA - Cars Distributors Assemblers - or something like that) so I also got to see the build process. (this back in about '82)
ETA: It was Car Distributors Assembly --> Link

That's not an '87 font either.
Is there really a difference or are you winding me up again? I found this badge on ebay. Biggest issue with it is that it is brand new and super chrome and shiny, whereas the chrome trim on the boot has really lost is lustre. Have finished rebuilding the rear bumper which has been painted, 2 new pieces of chrome have gone on. Have rebuilt the fixings with galvanised M8 bolts, nuts and washers rather than the crap MB catch bolts which rust terribly and bond to the chrome. Have lashed Waxoyl on it all once re-assembled as well. Just need a second pair of hands to get it back on the car now! Then it is on to the front bumper.... Slow progress.
