Sold mine back in June and also suffering from seller's remorse. The two cars I really regret selling are the FN2 and my DC2 (especially now values are double what I sold it for )
Really considering going back to an FN2, possibly a Mugen 200.
Go for it! Absolutely love mine and it sounds savage with a milltek non res exhaust! Only mod I've done so far but it just drives like a dream as stock!Really considering going back to an FN2, possibly a Mugen 200.

I sold this car 2.5 years ago and love that this thread has resurfaced.
I sold it to another PHr who has since sold it to a guy I know.
One of the few cars I genuinely miss. It was utterly brilliant in every way.

Makes you wonder how many people who slag them off have driven them. I too was also a DC2 owner, and the FN2 I thought was a great car, I certainly preferred it to the EP3 anyway. Better still with a Group N map on, it felt angry and urgent!Really considering going back to an FN2, possibly a Mugen 200.

I had an fn2 for 40,000 miles, apart from the engine and gearbox I didn't find much to enjoy about the driving experience. Steering was inert, the front end was poor on turn in, it wasn't adjustable on the throttle, it never felt good down a b road, it didn't flow and would get knocked off line by slight discrepancies in the surface. I spent a couple of grand trying to improve it before throwing in the towel and moving on.I get the appeal of them now that new n/a car's are slim on the ground but my ep3 is the better driving tool.

I bought this car from the OP, and found the above to be true when it was standard.I get the appeal of them now that new n/a car's are slim on the ground but my ep3 is the better driving tool.
All it needed was an LSD, Eibach Pro springs and a decent geo - completely different car after that. I had a brilliant two years in it.

Would the springs and fast road setup make it a more comfortable ride? What difference did you notice mateAll it needed was an LSD, Eribach Pro springs and a decent geo - completely different car after that. I had a brilliant two years in it.
TGM Sport said to me that the Eibach springs (progressively wound) and new Sachs dampers would make it significantly more comfortable as well as improve the roadholding - I must admit the crashy ride is the one thing I don't miss, but then the seats were so ridiculously comfortable that it was somewhat offset.

Thanks mate. How much were you quoted?I think it's a gearbox synchro issue. It started happening on my old one, but I sold it fairly soon after that so I never investigated how to fix it. Putting it into third will feel 'notchy' and a bit stiff, particularly from cold. If you google "FN2 type R third gear" there are quite a few useful threads on other forums about the issue.
I had a 57 Plate Milano Red FN2 I bought in 2012 and owned for a year. The only reason I sold it was due to the amount of Mileage I was doing at the time and it costing me over £60 a week in petrol. Currently drive a VW Scirocco but have on a few occasions contemplated selling the Rocco and buying another FN2 as a change in work circumstance means I do a lot less miles.

I second this. Mine has the OEM LSD, I've had eibach pro springs fitted, camber bolts and a geo at Grinspeed and it handles really well. Still feels heavy compared to my ep but so much better for the everyday grind. All it needed was an LSD, Eibach Pro springs and a decent geo - completely different car after that. Only real gripe with it is the less urgent way it revs compared to the EP. Feels lazy, probably due to the FBW throttle and balancer shaft setup. Still better than turbo though.
Aye I miss mine, have since gone to a Fiesta ST mk7. Its a better car for the type of driving I do and just as quick. I miss the FN2 engine note, spaceship interior and handling. (Mine had FRS/Geo though).
I don't miss the 23mpg though!
Oh mine had a notchy/stiff 3rd gear. New gearbox oil sorted it, was okay even in the cold after that. Its not always a syncro issue.

How lazy is lazy?? Mine jumps up to 5,500 way quicker than any other petrol n/a that I've owned and I've always revved every petrol that I've owned!
compared to the cable throttle EP3 it feels lazy. Dare I say it probably lazier than the 172s I've had too. It's no sluch like, just needs it's neck wringing a lot more than the ep or old clios.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
