Like the 10in wheels. I had heavily modified 87 Mini 1000 for three years. It was my first car and I still regret selling it now frown

When I was on the Mini scene, the Mk1 lights mod was generally frowned upon...

I think the OP would be better off going for the standard lights.

Im not keen on the 10" wheels and Id prefer 13"s on a modern Mini. Am I alone in this?

I do like 13" look as well but I like the superlite wheels and that would mean cutting the wings to accommodate. I like the option to but it back to original if need be.

It does tram line as well on 7x13 and i want to drive and feel as good as it can on the road smile

13 inch wheels are far too big for a mini, although they do look nice.

Good choice with the 10's, the mini looks sweet smile

Like the wheels but not too keen on the clear lights....looks more subtle with the standard amber/red units in my opinion

I have not seen the clear ones in the flesh yet but i will have both sets so can make my mind up when i next see it.

Really looking forward to it and glad i will have it as my Cerbera just seems to keep throwing up problems for me so at least i will have a wee toy to kick around in when the sun is back out smile

The only little update is the wood and pickett arches are with my mate so very little to do now.
He did have a little mishap with the car, he slipped on a spanner on the workshop floor and bent the door back on the wing before the hold back was fitted and dented it, He is getting one of his mates a dent master to come in and fix it to save him rubbing it back and filling it.

Not long now, can any one recommend a fitted cover for out door use, It will be in a barn plenty of air movement but want something substantial as its not quite as good as a heated garage.

To give you an idea of the 10s/arches/MK2 lights combo:

I know I'm harping on it about it (and I don't wish to sound mean) but there are so many Minis around with a real mish/mash of styles and odd parts nailed on; yours is just a couple of tiny tweaks away from looking really classy.

Im not sure that I follow you, but 13" wheels meant better tyres and they were a common upgrade when production Minis came with 12" wheels.

Would I fit 13" wheels to an original disc braked 10" wheel Mini? No! Of course not, but Id happily fit them to a 12" car.

I think the sidewall is too thin on a 175/50/13 as someone said above, some minis are a mix of styles, I think 13s are too modern a look. Keep them classic, no bodykits, 12" wheels leave just enough profile to make it work, and give access to bigger brakes and better tyres.

13" wheels and tyres are big, heavy, prematurely wear bearings/balljoints etc. They give a lumpy ride, cost more and look too modern.

I think that the motivation was partly that there werent any decent 12" tyres (or wheels) and partly that 13" looked quite aggressive. From memory though, the only tyres available (then) were Pirelli P7s so hardly a sparkling choice.

My personal preference is for 4.5" x 10" with no arches, but seen a few recentley with 4.5" x 12" with no arches, classic style but with cheap big brakes

There was a thread on here a while ago, grey one

Yes, the cost of 10"-friendly discs and calipers was was massive even then.

£217 for the full kit of cooper s 2 pot callipers discs and pads. Can't believe how cheap mini parts are next to my other hobby cars.

My thinking exactly, how I made my man maths work. A clutch for a mini about £100, clutch and slave for my cerbera close to £1000

It does make sense and the prices only seem to be heading north after talking with my mates who have been in to them 10-15 years now.

My thoughts exactly

Only doing short journeys now, really fancy something that is fun at normal (ish) speeds around town and lanes

Same as me I get hire cars to travel with work to use the cerb for round town is pointless as it takes a age to warm up perfect for the mini smile

Agree I paid £1600 for my MINI 5 years ago it was a good deal at the time and I have done some work but it would be worth £3k with ease now.

With regards to this MINI certainly go for the Mk2 rear lights at a minimum those clear rear lights look terrible I would not even fit them to my own chav tastic example!

Also with regards to cover I used something similar to this (purchased 3 years ago) I got off ebay for £50
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Austin-Mini-Outd...

It did the job quite well and held up for 3 years sat on the drive it is tired now though however so will probably look at replacing it with another one.

The cheap £20 covers are pretty st to be honest...
