Mini update wink

My mate is not having much luck, he took it for a road test and we have a crunchy gear box!

He has pulled the engine and sourced a replacement, he is going to use this as his wedding car in April as he has no chance on restoring his own mini in time, pictures to follow.

The arches are painted hi lo's fitted and door repaired. Hopefully not long now!

Looks like it will make a great car.

I sold my 96 Cooper SPI circa 2007 for £600. Not the smartest move I've ever made. The Minisport head on it cost more than that.

Gotta love a Mini, had one for my first car.

Bought it at 15, put it in my parents back garden and spent 2 years doing it up, from stripping it right down to bare mental, had it painted cherry / crimson with a white roof and 4 spot lights, to fitting new subframes, radius arms and popping in a 1380 motor, it went like the clappers!

Not sure the look of one of my mothers marigolds over the distributor looked great tho, but certainly helped in the rain.

Almost tempted to get another one to have as a hobby...enjoy smile

It is finally on the road but 95% finished, my mate hit quite a few issues, the gear box was grinding so the engine came back out and replacement fitted.

It still has a few bits of trim to fit still, a good machine polish and it has a fueling issue to resolve.

As to my mates true fashion it was moted the night before the wedding and road taxed on the morning of the big day smile

Hope to take delivery next week, like a kid a Xmas smile

Massive thumbs up! Wish our Mini 25 would be ready for our wedding but won't be for a few more years.

Scotty,

That looks great, well worth all the effort biggrin

World away from the Cerb, but that adds to the fun!

Cheers,

I received a few pictures on the restoration in progress and a few changes I have done.

It has since been back to a body shop for more polishing and to have the equinox decals fitted again, I managed to pick up a dark walnut dash with a 3 clock dash.

A few pictures of how the body sits now.

Lots of little jobs to do over winter the ride height needs set up as its too high on the front but it scrubs a touch so need to sort the arches a tad.

I had the car on hub dynos to see how it is running, not too bad 30bhp at the wheels, standard it went to make 50bhp at fly wheel from Factory.

Some tuning plans in the pipe line smile

It has been a while and I have been busy, I was having issues with the Rover injection, cutting out, hot start so had enough! I decided to keep the car spi and go aftermarket.

My route was Specialist components typhoon 2 ECU with there throttle body.

First up get the engine out.

Now it is out time for a clean up and strip down.

The wrong gearbox was fitted as the final drive was to short, I got the original box back and had the bulk ring replaced that was crunching

Lick of paint to freshen it up.

Head skimmed and valves lapped in.

I went for a new cam kit with variable vernier double valve springs a Swiftune SW5.

There was lots of the engine changed in the refresh oil pumps water, so on and so on. I just had it mapped after the first tuner was struggling to get good results it is now running like a Swiss time piece smile and in time to head to LMC in 2 weeks time!

I agree on the rear lights, I've never been a fan of the clear ones, great looking car other than that though.

Car looks great smile
Assume that's all the engine issues sorted now?
Why does someone above keep referring to it as a MINI!?

Thank you
Yes it's running well, needs a little bit more mapping as its a tad rich still but very smooth and responsive, should get it mapped this week before LMC and the exhaust needs sorting as no two parts are hanging the right way!
